The neighbourhood met our needs. We stayed a month between Jan and Feb. For the price, the place is well managed. Financial aspects are documented with a shared understanding. English is well spoken at the Front Desk. The place is kept clean and the front desk promptly deals with any matters of concern. As for what would make this place... More

Staying at The Smith Residence is a easy choice to make. Location, location, location! It is a two minute walk, if you're walking slowly over to the Chiang Mai Gate area. All of the staff is friendly and will do what they can to accommodate your needs. This is a professionally run business and it shows throughout the property. The... More

This was my Fourth x Monthly Stay at Smiths, and I find it great value. It's exceptionally clean, the Front Staff are friendly, and the low key Restaurant does reasonably priced, decent Meals. The Rooms are a decent size, and the Shower area more than adequate! The Owners, Mr and Mrs Smith are often to be seen downstairs and always... More

Highly recommended. My wife and I stayed at this place for four months in 2014. This is a terrific place to stay if you want basic, sqweaky clean, convenient lodging smack dab in downtown Chiang Mai — in this case — near the Chiang Mai gate. The staff is helpful, professional, with many members speaking English. The staff can provide... More

We stayed 8 nights at the Smith residence and found it really enjoyable. It is situated outside the walled city, but it is easy access to everything. We walked to all the places we wanted to go to in chiang mai itself and hired scooters through the hotel for everything that was further afield. The room was spotless, simple yet... More

I booked a deluxe room and was quite happy with what I got for a reasonable price at good location. Room is not big, not small just normal hotel room size. Didn't need AC for sleeping as temperatures are now quite cold at night. Wifi in the room was fine. On the roof top terrace you can find a (very)... More

This is good clean basic accommodation. There is a swimming pool on the roof, a restaurant on the ground floor and a laundry. The rooms have all the facilities you need including the vital aircon and room safe for valuables. Many of the staff on reception spoke commendably good English. There were just a couple of minor inconveniences: the light... More

We stayed at Smith residence for a total of three nights in two different dates. We knew the Smith residence is a simple hotel and stayed there because it was recommended to us by a friend. We didn't have great expectations but only wanted a clean room to sleep between motorbike tours during the day. Smith residence did not wrote... More

Located near the ChiangMai gate, this location was great. Can walk to market and several small bakeries and restaurants nearby. Getting taxi or red truck or tuk-tuk not a problem - if not at hotel, then short walk to major street. Furnishings are basic but clean. Note: no soaps, shampoos, toilet paper, etc. but there are a couple of 7-11s... More

Overall the hotel served it's purpose. It was clean it was centrally located and the price was right. When we first got there we were disappointed that if you wanted a hand towel you had to pay extra. If you wanted wifi they charged you per day or per week. But it was still cheap enough that the value was... More
