The atmosphere here is what made us want to stay for over a week. It's so communal, with the hostel organising cheap trips or things to do in the evening meaning that if you are a lone traveller or someone who loves to socialise, you can meet great people. The staff and the owner really helped us to find things... More

Spicythai Backpackers is the ideal hostel for those looking to have fun, stay in an incredibly social environment, and be offered a new adventure every day. The Hostel is a converted house with a great common area where you can watch one of 100's of films, or hang around the main table socializing with other travellers. The dormitories were well... Man what a great place to be. Arrived at 6 in the morning from my nightbus and got invited for a big hike at 10. Everyday the hostel organizes an activity and it is always so much fun. we went bowling, movie, night out, sports,... if you traveling by yourself, this is the place to be. Very social and fun.... Hostel is very clean, plenty of room in the dorms and shower facilities are ok (ladies go in the first shower on the left and you can get some hot water!). Also a hairdryer in the bathroom! Hostel organises loads of social events like pub crawl, dinner nights in, bowling, waterfall trip etc etc which is great. They also have... More

The best bit about spicythai is the vibe- very sociable and friendly. There's a great communal area, big TV with a great selection of films and lots of people to chat with. Noom, the owner (I think!) was very helpful when we asked about trips/cooking courses etc. and there are always activities planned - treks, bowling, dinner etc. should you... More

It was great in that you were put into a situation where you really easily met people from all over the world. It's really conducive to communal acativitiea and general friendly vibe. Perfect for lone travellers wanting to meet others, as well as those travelling in two. Always an event in the night and day for everyone, creates a vibe.... More

I've stayed at spicythai a few times during my travels to Chiang Mai and I definitely wouldn't stay anywhere else - although its not right in the centre of town, it is close enough and the vibe more than makes up for it! Always meet great people here, and the social area is great for chilling/pre drinks at night. Dorms... More

the rooms were pretty average, the showers were poor. Only one of the men's showers was warm. The film selection is good and so is the social area but it doesn't make up for how expensive it is. We move to deejais after a few days, it's cheaper and has a pool.

This is the ONLY hostel to stay at in Chiang Mai. The best hosts and everyday they had activities planned like bowling, bars, beaches, movie nights, Muay Thai fights and more. Hands down the best hostel I've ever stayed at and highly recommend if you are outgoing and love to meet/hang with new people!

I was somewhat dubious about all the positive reviews on here thinking it can't be that amazing - well it is! As soon as I arrived (just before 10pm) I was invited out bowling and they all waited for me whilst I got changed quickly. Rob, Chris and Tim that work there are great and have a lot of local...
