4 of us (2 couples) planned to stay at Banilah for 3 nights in between our venture from Bangkok to Laos. We decided to stay an extra 2 nights and skip Laos altogether because we felt so comfortable here. For the price we paid for the a/c room (~22 Canadian) we got more than enough. The girls were extremely helpful... More

I really wanted to like Banilah but it didn't live up to the reviews. The staff was great- they greeted me with cold tea and sat me down with 3 different maps outlining the area in great detail. The first night I stayed in a fan room- But it was so unbearably hot I had to switch after one night.... More

this hotel is amazing the staff are so friendly sat us down told us all the good spots to visit in chang mai and provided a very detailed map. the rooms were nice - outdoor shower and toilet only problem was the doors were thin and so you could hear a lot, but we are accustomed to a little noise... Banilah is quiet far from the old walled city. Which means you have to rent a motorbike or taxi your way to the most popular areas. The motel is located in very poor area which is not too clean. There are not many good restaurants around the motel. so you have to take a taxi to find restaurants. The price... More

Once we arrived at Banilah we were greeted warmly by the two ladies on reception (I forget your names, sorry!) and were given an extremely thorough briefing of places of interest in Chang Mai. Our room was immaculate and we were given water and lollipops on our bed. We also booked a bus to Pai for the next day but... More

I only stayed at Banilah one night but I was warmely welcomed by the owner at my arrival. She explained me how to take the transportation, the nice places to visit, where to eat .... Everything I needed to be at ease the day after. I highly recommend you that place, it is clean, well furnished, they try to be... More

We loved our stay at the banilah. The staff were always very helpful and friendly. When you arrive they sit you down and talk you through a detailed map on Chiang Mai, highliting all the sights and local restaurants. They were always attentive and when we needed to buy bus tickets to chiang mai one of the staff took us... More

I stayed for 5 nights in a single room. A great price for a clean and regularly serviced room with an excellent wi fi signal. Two fans and a little balcony help on the hot nights. It was nice and peaceful while I was there and the whole place is clean and wel maintained. Nan was extremely helpful with maps,... More

The staff (especially Nan and Phung) were among the friendliest, most helpful hostel/hotel staff I have ever met! When we first arrived, they sat us down and went over the map and made recommendations on things to do and where to eat. Their recs for Thai food were spot on (never tried the Western food places they mentioned). What really... More

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2015

I liked Banilah for being clean and quiet and super duper inexpensive. I also loved the cat cafe! But the location wasn't great (the city square is sort of walkable but definitely not in April), the atmosphere of the place was totally mediocre (i.e. no real atmosphere at all... neither homey cozy nor crazy backpacker), having to go outside to...
