I liked Banilah for being clean and quiet and super duper inexpensive. I also loved the cat cafe! But the location wasn't great (the city square is sort of walkable but definitely not in April), the atmosphere of the place was totally mediocre (i.e. no real atmosphere at all... neither homey cozy nor crazy backpacker), having to go outside to... I seriously just booked this place because I saw a review from airbnb saying there's a cat Cafe. So I went in here with no expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. I booked a reservation on their site and got a better deal because I was staying for a week. I arrived chiang Mai airport and took a taxi from... More

The best thing about this place is the staff, they are so lovely and helpful... As well as being really sweet and eccentric! They will arrange tours, order tuk tuks help you with directions print boarding passes etc they are adorable. They all came out to wave us off when we left! Absolutely lovely people. The facility itself is lovely,... More

From the moment you walk in through the door, you're greeted with a warm welcoming. The staff are absolutely brilliant. Extremely helpful, from suggesting places to eat, to even providing you with a detailed map of places to see and how to get there. I was delighted with type of service I received at Banilah. One of the ladies even... More

One of the best places I've stayed in Thailand so far. The staff is incredibly helpful and nice, they recommended a lot of places to see or grab a bite at in the area and it was obvious that they really cared about us and wanted to make sure we have a great time not only at their hotel but... As a cat lover, I found it refreshing to see a hostel with so many cats and cat themed decorations. Unlike a previous review, I saw no signs of animal cruelty, as the cats were well fed, well looked after and very well loved. The cats are their pets and it's their choice whether to have them as house cats... More

The girls who work there are so helpful. The owner sat us down on arrival, gave us free maps and highlighted all the best places to visit. She also recommended great local places to eat among other useful bits of advice. With any requests the girls were extremely helpful, including booking tours and taxis. The room was vintage-style and good... More

Ok...so as a cat lover, it broke my heart seeing cats indoors on leashes with no adequate possibilities to roam freely. When I asked one of the ladies, she said it's because one of the cats had a car accident - well, if they are no longer allowed outside fine but why keep them inside on leashes? At least let... More

My 3rd time to Chiang Mai and 1st time at this accommodation. Firstly the place is lovely, rooms are clean, a good size, and offered everything we needed. Secondly the staff are fabulous, very welcoming and friendly, the colour coded map is invaluable, we ate all meals at places recommended and weren't at all disappointed. The only down side is... We ended up here when the hotel we booked cancelled on us. It's a great bargain, but it has it's flaws. Biggest challenge is the noise. The building is built with a hollow interior, which acts as an echo chamber. Though it's not on a very busy street, it amplifies the sounds of passing scooters. Bring earplugs. Our bathroom was...
