The staff are VILE. The welcome we got was a lad sat on his phone, not even bothering to acknowledge I was there before he had finished his conversation. I then asked nicely if we could check in, and he just threw the pen and pad of paper in front of me without even looking what he was doing. He... More

This hostel is pretty much what it says on the tin. The lady at reception was friendly and helpful, and the hotel has free WiFi, which we were told only worked in the reception area but worked fine in our room on the 3rd floor. Cleanliness in the hotel was poor, and the plaster/paint was coming off the walls in... More

The rooms are very old, mildew everywhere, some holes in the walls and the beds didn't looked too clean. Beside the bad value you get for the price the staff is either unfriendly or rude and told me I shouldn't care about throwing out my money for nothing valuable.

I guess "great, clean, friendly" sums it all up, but I really enjoyed my time here. We spent 8 weeks traveling through Thailand, and this is one of 4 hotels that I stayed in when we were in Bangkok. From the manager, a delighful woman named Sutthiporn, to the staff who cleaned my room everyday, we really like this hotel.... More

Out of 20 odd places myself and my girlfriend stayed at during our trip through asia this has to be the worst. The receptionist asked us three times if we wanted to check the room before we paid. At first we though she was just being thorough but then we realised she was giving us a chance... The third time... More

I sometimes feel that I am going against popular opinion when I read reviews and disagree with most writers, but I thoroughly enjoyed my days at the Sawasdee Smile Inn. I wasn't expecting to stay at a five-star $400 a night hotel, but my expectations were more than met. My room was clean as was the while hotel. The staff... More

Stayed here a few years ago and it was quite decent for the money,it had a good restaurant and bar area and the staff were really friendly. I was saddened to see it it its current condition. The staff can't be bothered, the receptionist treats you as an inconvenience. The rooms shabby, the restaurant and bar half closed and generally... More

I can second most of the previous reviews on this place. We chose to stay here for our last few days in Bangkok as it was cheap and close to Kaosan Road. Those two points were its only positives! Except for one staff member who was helpful to my husband we too felt that the staff were unwelcoming. The room,... More

We were going to stay here three nights but ended up staying just one as it was sooo bad. This is a cheap place, not supposed to be fancy, but our shower (if you can even call it that) had little worms (maybe leaches?) in it when we arrived and the toilet was precariously positioned in the bathroom. The wifi... More

To call this place The Sawsdee Smile Inn, is a joke in itself! There is nothing smiley or welcoming about this place! On arriving by tuk tuk the driver had no small change. So I left my girlfriend with him while I went to try and sort some out from the hotel. I went to the front desk where there... More

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
