Excellent location - a peace island in busy Khao San. The hostel is quite basic but very cheap and the management is helpful. Totally recommended if you're on a budget. Went there in 2010 and not in 2012 as stated.

just of Kho Soan Road, this little hostel is nice and for a good price. No extras here, just a bed and a shared shower, you can choose with AC of with fan. I took the fan option, good enough for me an my 2 nights there. If you are looking for a budget option in bangkok which is quiet,... More

A charming small hostel located at a small street just off Khao San Road. Great location, without the noise that comes from the many bars nearby. Rooms are very small, but clean, and you have the option to choose between A/C and fan, and bathrooms are shared. The hostel offers a 'free' breakfast, but that's only a cup of Nescafe... More

The Shamabara is a nice little hostel with small rooms that contain a bed and no other furniture. Rooms come with a/c or a fan and area reasonably clean but if you leave something under the bed it will reaper covered in dust. There is a shared bathroom and showers that are also reasonably clean. Breakfast of toast and tea... More

I made the mistake of only using the latch inside the room to lock my door, this was easily forced open during the night and I had my phone stolen from my bedside while I slept. The concerning part is that the staff didn't seem surprised, were reluctant to help and then refused to provide a refund on our remaining... More

We had an air-con room which was very small and dark for £11.50/night. However it was clean and the guesthouse is tidy and welcoming. The shared bathrooms were clean although the hot water wasn't working when we stayed there. Location is down a small alley just off Khao San.

First the positive: It is clean and attractive, and nicely tucked out the way from the business of the main road. Rooms are clean and functional, and there's plenty of hot water. However: I arrived having booked a single room on lonely planet. The staff claimed to have no record of my booking but eventually gave me a room for... More

This hostel is in one of the soi (lane) on KhaoSan road. Good thing that it is in a soi and not on KhaoSan as KhaoSan is very rowdy at night. I got a twin aircon room in between 2 rooms and and i can't hear much noise and able to sleep well. There're mosquitoes, so if you're hate them,... More

Let's face it--Khao San Road is a gong show. Luckily, the Shambara's location is quietly tucked away in an alley, about a 30-second walk away. That 30 seconds makes a world of difference! The rooms are smallish, but they're comfortable and very clean. Bathrooms are shared, but there are enough showers and stalls.
