It is quite conveniently located in the old town area. The staff here are extremely helpful. They give you printed maps and bus routes at the counter, which was very useful. They also have a guide for Bangkok in the library - a small printed copy. Reading it can be quite rewarding. The accommodation is very basic and the room... More

I like the place. It's peaceful and quite. A good value for money. The owner gave me a map since I was always asking about taxi fares and so on..He advised me to take a walk, ride the ferry...how to get here and there. I was so glad I did! :-)

This hostel is a nice place to stay if you want something little less crazy in bangkok. There is a nice street market just behind the hostel where you can get some food. The rooms were nice and the staff very friendly. However, most attractions/sights and bars are a bit further away so you need to get a tuk tuk... More

HI Bangkok is a gem of a place. The concierge will bend over backwards to help you with tourist information. I have stayed in hostels that seem a bit like a cash cow, but HI Bangkok certainly feels like it has a personal service. The rooms are scruffy, but they are clean, comfortable and air conditioned. The location is excellent... More

It is a bit difficult to find this place especially if you are coming from Suvarnabhumi airport. Take the airport rail link (city link) til Phaya Thai station and then get a local metered taxi. But the place is quite good : clean very close to Khao San road - (20 mins walk) and with a great English speaking staff... More

I paid around $12/night for a basic shared room. I discovered it has no air condition. I moved to a higher room with AC for $21. Staff was very helpful when asked about tours and where/how to go. The big gathering area is excellent for meeting people from all over the world. Easy access to boat buses that will take... More

Stayed here our first couple of days in Bangkok. It's a quiet hostel 20min from khao san road. It can be a bit difficult to find but it's certainly worth the trouble. It's in a quiet part of the city and close by the canal so you can take a boat (easiest is the orange line, 15baht) to all the... More

The best thing about this hostel was the location as it was a bit further out of Bangkok than many others so it was a lot quieter and there were local street food stalls around but it was still within walking distance to khao San road. The staff were friendly and the rooms were big with a/c and an en... More

Staying in Dusit

Neighborhood Profile
Dusit
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
