Stay here many times since the 90s. Funky and nostalgic. Used to have great 60s/70's "free love" art decorations, shag rugs and mirrors everywhere. Affordable, decent and homey. No glitz, flash or bling. Basic accommodation in a great location. The place been missed.

Was so sad to hear that this hotel has closed down and is set for demolition. We have stayed here many times and was planning to stay here on our way back from Sri Lanka to Australia. We have wonderful memories of this place.

I've been staying there for over 10 years, the staff were great and nothing was a problem, when I stayed there last September they told me it was closeing down with in the next month or too, apparently the owner was planning to knock the hotel down and build condos Such a shame! I don't think I'll find another hotel like... More

Although the web site is still confirming reservations, I arrived to find the place shut down. I've been staying at this hotel annually since 1997. Rumour has it that the Japanese built it for their officers during their occupation, and the Americans put the pool in. Please confirm or deny the story. Was told that the place will be torn... Went there on January 5th and found the hotel closed. Been staying there many times and was my favourite. Could not find out if they intend to open again. My guess is that they will break it down and build apartments. We shall see.

The Golden Palace Hotel is a good value, clean hotel with large but basic rooms. The breakfast provided was very good, with a choice from a range of Thai and Western dishes. The hotel also gave a discount for the spa next door, where you could get a great Thai massage. The best thing about the hotel was the location: only... More

It is very hard to choose a accommodation in such a big city but this was very good choice. Make sure you get a room in the second floor! The rooms are big, the bathrooms are clean, you get 2 waters free every day, you get a nice american breakfast in a local restarant that is very handy as we... More

I booked this place based on the nice reviews (and the location + swimming pool). When I arrived I was shown 'standard' room and 'deluxe' room to chose from. I will tell you that the standard room has NO windows and has mirrors on the three walls - what kind of love shack is that? I was shocked... By comparison,... More

For me and my girlfriend (both 26 years old), this was our first hotel in Thailand, and clearly one of the best value-for-money picks throughout our whole trip. We can definitely recommend it (we booked it again for the nights before leaving Thailand at the end of our trip, adding up to a total of 5 nights spent in 2... More

Staying in Sukhumvit

Neighborhood Profile
Sukhumvit
With a mix of shopping malls, hip bars and food stalls lining both sides of Thailand’s longest road, you’ll rarely encounter a dull moment along Sukhumvit. While the main road itself doesn't offer a lot in terms of entertainment, it's the adjoining 'sois' (alleys) where the magic happens. Popular spots are soi 11 for a lively night out, soi 4 for naughty nightlife and soi 21 for world-class shopping at Terminal 21. It's hard to cover everything this area has to offer in on day, so be sure to take your time. Sukhumvit is heavily congested with traffic during day and night, so getting from A to B is most convenient using the BTS Skytrain right above it.
