Was here on business with a colleague so I had very would have a very different impression from tourists. I was told by my Bhutanese friends that Jumolhari is the closest thing to a western style hotel and was booked into it. Hotel room was very homely with a large space, a heater that works and a promise of internet... more

I probably have a different impression from some of the other reviewers in that I was a solo traveller and, as such, actually talked to the staff whereas most are in tour groups and chat away together and are there to complain about the service (or lack of). Maybe they have reason to but I found all of the staff... more

A smart looking hotel with aspirations to be a 'boutique hotel'. Room was neat and modern (but rather faceless given that you are in Bhutan). First lunch was excellent but lost its appeal when offered again for our evening meal! Breakfast was dire. Apart from a couple of notable exceptions, the staff (and interestingly, especially the women), were grim -... more

Having arrived for the Kings Coronation and booked into a superior suit we were disappointed with the dark, low ceilinged loft room. The highlight of the room had to be the mass of pigeons that have nested in the space directly above the bathroom ceiling, followed by the intermittent hot water. The management are aware of the pigeon infestation but... more

We spent two nights here in Oct'08. This hotel is right around the corner from the Druk and is in a great, central location. We were able to walk to many places (restaurants, internet cafes, the weekend market, etc). There's also a fairly good grocery store very close (by the Druk). This hotel is the most modern/westernized of the ones... more

The rooms and facilities are amongst the best in Bhutan after the Aman, Uma etc. The location is good for walking around Thimpu's sites. However, we did have issues with the reception staff. We had booked and paid for an upgraded room and documentation to show. But the hotel allocated a standard room. After much arguing, our bags were moved... more

Other than the Uma in Paro, this is the most modern hotel we stayed in in Bhutan. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It is clean, centrally located and the rooms are fitted out with a hair dryer and there is supposed to be wireless access (for a fee) in the rooms but it wasn't working while we were here.... more

Probably comes closest of the 8 hotels / lodges I stayed in during my trip to Bhutan to what visitors from western countries normally expect. The Jumolhari is on Thimpu’s main street. It has a pleasant ambience, the restaurant especially and the rooms are pleasantly furnished but the bed was, in keeping with most accommodation in Bhutan, too hard for... more

I was simply overwhelmed by the natural beauty of Bhutan. Green hills, clear rivers, fresh air, and hospitable people. The staff at Jumolhari was extra special, especially their manager, Ninzy. I was unwell on one of the days as I had eaten some food from a local restaurant, and when I came back to the hotel, Ninzy sent soup and... more
