I stayed here whilst on a school exhibition. We occupied 2 large rooms of 12 - our room had only one light dangling from the ceiling which made it very hard to see. The beds were comfortable but the setting was extremely noisy - the place is more of a club than a quiet retreat, they had music blaring until... More

Nice place. I was there in the low season, so not very many people, but still, the ones I might where wonderful people. Travellers that hade good stories to tell, and gladly shared them. The place it self has all you need. Plenty of showers, toilets, couches, pooltable, and lots of beds in the form of dorms, singles, doubles etc.... More

I was utterly disappointed with the place. Rooms are totally ran down. The room I slept in had just a bed, a lousy mosquito net (supported by bamboo sticks) and walls and lots of mosquitoes. The washrooms were not lit at night and I had to wait till morning to take a shower. Only good thing maybe was the free... More

From Canada, studying at a university in a rural ugandan village. I love the village lifestyle but it was time for a break. I came to Kampala to get some groceries, stay in a hostel and meet some people. Backpacks is a great place to socialize. Everyone is so friendly and the open environment is perfect to make friends. The... More

I stayed here for a couple of nights in January. The atmosphere is good and I liked the location (a bit away from all the hustle and bustle), but the service is absolutely pathetic. I booked a trip to the Murchison falls and chimp trekking. The itinerary said that the food is included, but it wasn't, so just make sure... More

A bit far from town, this hostel has a nice place for campers, but the rest doesn't worth it. Dirty and ruined rooms, bathrooms that doesn't work and dirty and old installations. The owner was saving to buy his new Mercedes SLK to show it to the regge celebrities of the country instead of renovate his old installations. Food doesn'... More

I stayed here with a large group of volunteers like many many others. Free wifi is great but only in communal area. I stayed in one room that was just like a wall with beds placed in which was odd, but a few nights later got a room which was better. The mosquito nets were okay. Food was great, when... More

According to the Bradt Guide of Uganda this was the budgetplace to go in Kampala. We stay here for one night but it really doesn't look good. The place is very rundown... I would not recommend this place.

I was here for about a week in july 2014 and a few days in February 2011. Quite a few of changes has been made in these years. The hostel is well organised and offers a large range of facilities travellers might be interested in. Wireless internet, lots of sockets to charge your phone, tablet or laptop, enough space to... Since my last visit 18 months ago, this once-bustling meeting place for travelers has become a shell of its former self. There are few guests and perhaps understandably, the longtime Australian owner is now looking to other ways of making revenue such as turning the gardens and part of the main building into a night club for the local Kampalans....
