Lets be honest it is called backpackers. Do not expect the world. The bar is nice and the food not bad. The room was ok. We asked to move to a room without a window to cut down on mozzies. The cleaner is cleaning every day but I feel they don't do deep clean.

I loved backpackers! It is located in such a great position and it was so convenient to get around. The staff were really friendly and it was a great way to get to know people that were also travelling. I ended up travelling to Rwanda with some of the people I met at Backpackers. The rooms are comfortable and are... More

I have stayed at Backpackers a number of times, I like the atmosphere which is generally quiet and the gardens are refreshing after Kampala traffic (although as others mention there are noisy bars sometimes open til late in the surrounding area, which happens in much of Uganda). The staff are nice, happy to chat, and Nicholas plays great music if... More

The goods: Fairly reasonably priced. Net seems to work ok. The gripes: Disgusting bathrooms; no hotwater found either days; surrounded by discos; off-putting staff (although they got better); place was invaded by a myriad high school self righteous bible-thumpers (although not BP's fault, does reflect what one may deal with);

Stayed for a couple of days when visiting my daughter who was out there for a year. Rooms were basic & toilets/showers were pretty naff. Steep stairs outside our room with no handrails which was a bit worrying (as I have no sense of balance!). Ate there a couple of times & food was OK but not tasty. Also had... More

Please ignore the review below. Backpackers is not really suited for a group of 48 people, and moved people around there rooms specifically so that you could come. The service you received is probably because there was so many of you. The water was ice cold because you used up all the hot water. On the days that you were... More

The sleeping accommodations were good. I was here with a group of 48 people traveling to Kenya and they were very good about housing all of us. We slept in dorm rooms and the beds were comfortable. There wasn't efficient lighting in the dorms, however, and the showers were ICE cold. Also, the wireless internet was absolutely terrible. On the... More

This is a great place to stay if you are traveling alone. It is a hostel, so you cant expect too much. Fairly clean and there's hot water in the showers. Nice bar area. The food here is expensive however. You can get single rooms as well. I stayed in the shared room with 6 other people. But it was... More

Have stayed there for 5 days, before and after our Safari to the Merchison falls, the hostel is not inside the city but to the center it tales you no more than 15 minutes on the buda Buda to travel to down town, it is an advantage that it is not right in the center as Kampala is very crowded... The staff is not cooperative and the condition of the rooms is pathetic. The showers are not working and no water available through out the stay so u can make out how u r going to have a stay over here. Rest nothing is special for which u may drool for it to come and stay over here.
