To begin with, if you are considering Senegal and Dakar as a place to visit - do NOT go. Go to Kenya or Tansania, but not to Senegal. If you want to see mountains of trash, pollution, and human misery and suffering, Dakar and Senegal are the right place (no offense intended to those who live there). My wife and... more

I booked at Farid based on the positive reviews that i saw on this page. After two weeks there I highly recommend it. If you are using a Lonely Planet guide you will find that the Hotel Farid is in walking distance from quite a few points of interest (Sandaga Market, Marche Kermel, the boat to Goree Island, etc.) I'll... more

Dakar's reputation goes before it. Booking an independent hotel was a risk that I took on the strength of previous reviews. They were right. The Farid's location does not initially inspire - on a busy narrow central Dakar street. But the room was spacious, well kept, with good quality air conditioning, TV and bathroom, and a recent renovation. The hotel... more

Stayed here for a week-long workshop in Dakar. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms - the sheets were washed every day. I arrived at 5 am and they gave me a room, even though check in wasn't until the afternoon. The internet in the superior rooms was excellent- even better than mine at home. The room... more

The Hotel Farid is good value in central-ville (city center) Dakar just a couple blocks from Place de l’Independance and an easy walk to the Dakar-Ile de Goree ferry terminal. We concur with other reviewers who describe clean, basic but spacious rooms. In addition, complimentary Internet access is a major convenience – oh, yes! Friendly multi-lingual staff and an excellent... more

We stayed Hotel Farid in Dakar for almost a week in the summer of 2006. Dakar is a difficult city to get used for somebody who has not visited Africa before. Hotel Farid was like our home away from our home. The reception area is very small, and kind of misleading. But once we took the elevator, everything was much... more

This hotel is a good choice if you look value for money. Don't expect luxury here. Rooms are very basic, bathrooms as well. But they are clean, roomy, and the staff is great, very friendly and available to help. The hotel is owned by Lebanese expats, and you can see it in the delicious Farid restaurant, which offers you Lebanese... more

Stayed at Hotel Farid while in Dakar for work in mid-January. We actually stayed in two different rooms, as we were moved from one to another because of the needs of incoming guests, so we saw two sides of the hotel. The hotel is a good choice if you're in Dakar for work, study, visiting people, or just a couple... more
