While the hotel is badly in need of a renovation I keep coming back for two reasons. First the staff. Where else does front desk staff greet you with a hug? Second, the green space at the back which is the nicest in Kigali. The rooms are reasonably large and clean. Airport pick up is sometimes unreliable so I now... More

I've done an extensive amount of traveling in my lifetime, and this is one of the worst hotels I've stayed at in a while. There's not much to praise other than the pretty grounds near the pool. The rooms are spartan. Indeed not air conditioned, and the screens to the balcony were bent in my room (as many others have... More

The hotel needs some serious renovation. Rooms are old, smell dusty and service at the reception is very poor. Even though the hotel committed to pick me up from the airport, nobody showed up. Standard rates are ridiculous. My TV didn't have reception but despite numerous visits to reception, nothing was done about it. Also, shower water was not hot... More

Ideally I'd be giving this a 'good' rather than 'average' rating - but it didn't tip into the 'very good' category for me. I was in Kigali for a work commitment and stayed here for that reason. Most aspects of the hotel were good: the rooms are big, the shower had reliable hot water, the restaurant area outside is great... More

Although as previous visitors have noted, the hotel is a little 'tired', the friendly staff and good sized rooms make up for that. There are also excellent sports facilities, with a good sized pool (c. 20m) as well as tennis and volleyball courts.

As others have noted, Umubano could use a little updating. The hotel is quite clean - especially the rooms - but the carpet and other fixtures have seen better days. Having said that, this is my second time staying and Umubano and I would stay here again. The rooms are comfortable (nice pillows), and the service is very friendly. The... More

This hotel (the former Novotel) needs repairs and updating, and is quite ratty looking especially on the outside. However, I should say up front that I would stay there again, on future visits to Kigali, for its convenient location, gym, tennis courts and pool and lovely gardens, nice people, working Wifi, and relatively comfortable rooms. The rooms are basic and... More

Good hotel, but could offer better for the cost. Infrastructure is good, staff friendly but not very effective, but there is just something missing that doesn't make it standout for what it should be.... Food not excellent, service not very good, you wait a long time to get a cutlery (as if they have to go and recycle the ones... More

It was difficult to give this hotel a review as I never actually managed to stay here. I made a reservation for the hotel, which they accepted & my company twice confirmed with them. Then when I turned up at 1am having just gotten off a day long flight I was told by the night manager that they were fully... More

It is difficult to put a finger on a single problem with this hotel. Everything is there but nothing is absolutely right. The rooms are good but not so clean, the restaurant has some good meals but never leaves me satisfied, the staff are friendly but never effective. It is a hotel that should be good but never is. The... More
