Just returned from our third visit to this splendid retreat in the southeastern corner of Rwanda, beyond Nyungwe National Forest. The lodge boasts exquisite details, and a skillful incorporation of local materials and motifs from both the country of Rwanda, and the adjacent tea plantation. The architecture was intended to blend harmoniously into the environment and the retreat and rooms... More

I our up coming industry, Nyungwe Forest Lodge remains an inspiration to travelers who have managed to visit Nyungwe National Park. Nyungwe has about 13 Primate species and close to 300 Bird species of which 25 of them are Albertine Endemics and out of the 25, 2 are uniquely found in Nyungwe. That is the Red colored Mountain Babbler and... More

Beautiful design and execution of this gem set in the tea bushes up against the dramatic forest. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day. Staff were excellent, as was the service. We hiked to the waterfalls, watched monkeys and birds from the deck of our room and enjoyed the food. Entire lodge is relatively new and both... More

What an exquisite surprise! We had booked through a Rwanda travel agent who planned this portion and what a treat it was. South Western Rwanda is less visited than the Volcanoes national park region (where the gorillas are) but well worth the trip. The lodge (really an exquisite hotel) is set amongst tea plantations, rolling hills, and the mountains in... More

I have to agree with previous reviewers -- the website undersells this place. Nyungwe Forest Lodge is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed. The location is stunning -- a series of beautiful bungalows perched at the edge of the rainforest on a luminescent green tea plantation. The rooms and main lodge are beautifully designed, using Rwandan materials,... More

My wife and I visited the lodge for a weekend. A full program of chimpanzee and monkey trecking, walks and other forest orientated activities are available. We did nothing, we only ever intended to relax. The lodge itself is set in a tea plantation right on the edge of the forest. The guest rooms and not situated within the main... More

A couple of weeks ago my friends and I travelled to Rwanda and stayed at the Nyungwe Forest Lodge. On the drive there the most spectacular orange sun disappearing behind a forest greeted us. I knew we had hit the jackpot. I realised that as quiet as this forest seemed, it was breathing life with mist rising from in between... More

Amazing location, breath-taking scenery, great room design, good massage and spa treatments, TERRIBLE food. Perhaps the food is not a priority as it is included in the room rates. The menu each meal had a choice of two or three mains and without fail one of them was close to inedible. There was no bacon for the two mornings we... More

Just a fantastic place to stay. Beautiful rooms with the rain forest crowding up to your back porch (had some great mono-monkey viewing one afternoon). Very peaceful and safe. Excellent food. Excellent common areas (chess set next to a fire place was great after the daily treks). Infinity pool on the edge of the forest has to be seen to... More

This lodge is part of the "Mantis collection". I don't know what that is but any hotel that is part of a "collection" must be something special and Nyungwe Forest Lodge is indeed. It is a stunning lodge that values simplicity, good taste and beauty over opulence. The setting amongst the acres of tea fields makes for a surprisingly beautiful... More
