Tapoa Hotel is a real Beauty in a very remote part of the Republic of Niger. It is about 2 hours drive from Niamey and the road is in an excellent and suprisingly good condition (when considering most of the detoriated roads in the Niger). There was good and bad at this hotel. The prices were great and very cheap and the view was excellent in the first couple rooms. To dampen expectation, have to remember that Parc W is not like the well known reserves in Kenya, Tanzania or South Africa. There is wildlife here, but there is less of it and you have to work to see it. More importantly there is no established culture of local guiding - we actually had to explain to the "guide" some... I just came back from a 8 day trip to Niger. I stayed for 6 days in the Tapoa hotel at the entrance of the natural Parc W. The great thing of the environment is that you can easily combine Wildlife watching (buffalo's, crocodiles, deer, several types of monkeys, hippopotamus and more) and solidarity with the local population.
