I spent a night at the Protea Hotel Thuringerhof and fortunately it was only one night. As a gold prokard member I was allocated a small single 1st floor room which faced onto the road. The window did not close properly and the road noise was continuously present. The bathroom tap was loose and not properly secured to the basin.... More

Extremely overpriced for what you receive. Wifi has to be purchased if you exceed the small allocation provided to you, thus adding to the already expensive room cost. Not ideal for businessmen wanting to do emails. The food is average and expensive. The service is not bad at all and the hotel is clean and tidy (which one would expect generally).... More

We had originally been booked in to the More upmarket Protea Hotel in Windhoek, however on our arrival at reception we were told that we didnt appear on their booking schedule and that they were full !! wow... we stood with the email confirmation in our hands (as for all our Protea hotel confirmations for our trip) and they said... The hotel is very centrally located in town and is in the perfect area but it really needs a good refurb. Walking in sometimes makes you feel you in the late 70s early 80s. There was free wifi which was an added bonus but sometimes signal was intermittend. The rooms are clean and have everything one needs. Its best to... More

Pros: 1) Very friendly and helpful staff. Hileni and Martha at reception are the stars. 2) Good value rooms at a central location. 5mins walk to La Marmite restaurant (for good Cameroonian Curry!) and Tre supermarket which is the only one that closes late at 10pm. 10mins walk to Wernhill Park Shopping Mall. Opposite the police HQ. 3) Free WiFi... More

The hotel Is located on the heart of the city. Shopping malls and ministerial blocks at a walkable distance. Nice restaurant and well trained staff. The hotel is old. It might needs some refurbished or facelift.

This met our need for somewhere for a few hours to have a shower and change of clothes and visit a few shops in between the end of a safari and before an overnight flight. But would not want to stay overnight. Small bedroom with inefficient air conditioner and tiny bathroom. decor very old fashioned.

The staff were very curteous and helpful. However the rooms overlooking Independence Avenue were both noisy from trafic pollution and very warm even with the airconditioning on all night. The food was average and I would recommend seeking advice to eat outwith of the hotel Joe's Beerhouse restaurant has a kind of legendary status attached to it and is well... More

I didn't want to rate this hotel as poor because the staff were very friendly and the restaurant/bar is quite good and fun. The bartender was very nice and made us feel welcome. However, the rooms were quite shabby and the neighborhood did not feel safe at night. We got up at 5am just to get away.

I thought that because it was close to the training venue where I had to attend training that it would be most suitable. It needs a serious serious renovation, The staff need to get more trainng on custommer service. The "Restaurant " was pathetic , cold breakfast and not enough food to cater for a large group. Where do you get... More
