I was supposed to stay at this hotel for a week recently for business in Windhoek. On arrival everything seemed fine, but soon went downhill from there. My room was dirty and dusty to the extent that I didn't want to put my clothes in the closet. The bathroom as actually so nasty that I refused to of in there.... More

I love Protea hotels, this Protea had great service great personnel, but the rooms and décor was really tatty. The breakfast was true Protea style, great. The room was old and smelly. The bed was smelly.

I am totally gob-smacked that this hotel belongs to the Protea Chain of hotels. The service was well below par with the staff incapable of ordering a cab for guests or ensuring the conference venue was cleaned on a daily basis, let alone between morning and afternoon session. Like vegetarians meals, bottled water, were virtually impossible to find! For the... More

Stayed here for a conference, I was very dissapointed indeed. The TV signal was pathetic, when I enquired they said it will be fixed, but they never did. The food for vegetarians was misreable, starch, starch and starch. The toilets in the rooms were poky and when I sat on the toilet seat I my feet didnot touch the floor... More

Good location to shops but disappointing. Beds not full size double so the tussle for the bed quilt inevitable. Rooms too small for two people especially if you have luggage. The rooms are very dated and in need of good lick paint and replacement of bathroom facilities. No smoking area so you end up pacing the Main Street feeling like... More

I spent a night at the Protea Hotel Thuringerhof and fortunately it was only one night. As a gold prokard member I was allocated a small single 1st floor room which faced onto the road. The window did not close properly and the road noise was continuously present. The bathroom tap was loose and not properly secured to the basin.... More

Extremely overpriced for what you receive. Wifi has to be purchased if you exceed the small allocation provided to you, thus adding to the already expensive room cost. Not ideal for businessmen wanting to do emails. The food is average and expensive. The service is not bad at all and the hotel is clean and tidy (which one would expect generally).... More

We had originally been booked in to the More upmarket Protea Hotel in Windhoek, however on our arrival at reception we were told that we didnt appear on their booking schedule and that they were full !! wow... we stood with the email confirmation in our hands (as for all our Protea hotel confirmations for our trip) and they said... The hotel is very centrally located in town and is in the perfect area but it really needs a good refurb. Walking in sometimes makes you feel you in the late 70s early 80s. There was free wifi which was an added bonus but sometimes signal was intermittend. The rooms are clean and have everything one needs. Its best to... More

Pros: 1) Very friendly and helpful staff. Hileni and Martha at reception are the stars. 2) Good value rooms at a central location. 5mins walk to La Marmite restaurant (for good Cameroonian Curry!) and Tre supermarket which is the only one that closes late at 10pm. 10mins walk to Wernhill Park Shopping Mall. Opposite the police HQ. 3) Free WiFi... More
