The rooms are standard, view is good. Some of the staff are friendly, others (check-in especially) are a little off- ish. It would all be quite acceptable and even charming with lower rates. The restaurant especially is a rip- off. Wine in particular is outrageously expensive (standard bottle of wine 2000 Metica (US$80). We eat down the street for 1/4... more

Great place if you enjoy "frontier" countries, history, etc. If you want an efficient business hotel go to the Holiday Inn. Staff can be rude, unfriendly, etc but what do you expect in an ex-communist country? There were others that were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, and there are few hotels left in the world with this kind... more

Best buffet breakfast anywhere. I REPEAT - anywhere. At that price the workers must be on minimum wage. Its africa, so sometimes there is a compromise. Like old curtains, and biggy best bed spreads. But thats the detail. and let me tell you, the devil's is in the service and this place is the Vatican. 10 staff members to a... more

The Polana is one of this classical hotels that you cannot miss. The hotel is a typical colonial style building with a great swimming pool, a great bar, a great tea room, a great victorian lift... The rooms are fine and you have wi-fi access for free. Even when your room is turned to the Juluis Nyerere Av. there's not... more

In its heyday the Polana was one of the great hotels of Africa but by the time of my visit (2006) it was obvioulsy in need of an "aggiornamento". The room I was given was basic and worthy of a 2-3 star hotel. The swimming pool chairs and towels were too old fashioned. I hope someone restores it to its... more

I definitely thought that this hotel was one of the nicer hotels in Maputo but the building is definitely aged as are the rooms. The building does have a colonial charm to it. I do recommend staying in the newer building (not the main building) since all of the rooms have balconies and you have a view of the ocean.... more

This is my first time to Mozambique and travel alone. I only stay at Hotel Polana for one night but it was already enough for me to feel sick of this hotel. As for the category and services, their rate was absolutely be overcharged. Their room was too old which needs renovation, I found my room condition was even worser... more

We were terribly disappointed with our experiences at the Polana. We stayed 4 nights so we feel we had fair basis on which to judge, not just a bad night or day. We also had spent a week in January at a wonderful 4 star hotel, a Sofitel, in Flic-en-Flac Mauritius, and were looking forward to an even better experience... more

Beautiful historical building with excellent views of the Indian Ocean. However, this was not enough to compensate for cockroaches (room and restaurant). My room was sprayed and smelled for days 'toxic' (hotel was full so I could not change room. The WLAN system that would only work 2 out of 12 days of my stay. For this category and price,... more

The is truly one of the finer hotels I have stayed in, with its sprawling grounds, impressive building and rooms, it really does leave little to be desired (short of service which seemed lacking, unresponsive or rude at times) I would highly recommend staying here for the shear indulgence or for a special occasion -- not if you're planning on... more
