Even with their recent overhaul to some rooms, this hotel has seen better days. In all but the refurbished executive rooms, the furnishings and fixtures are worn and faded. The air conditioning often doesn't work well, or at all. The staff are nice (Malawians are generally very warm people), but inefficient. The restaurants are disappointing (except for the wood-oven pizza... More

The Sunbird Capital was probably the place to stay 20 years back but is in desperate need of a total overhaul and revamp. The beds seemed clean and were moderately comfortable but the carpets are ancient and foul, the showers are trecherously dangerous (you have to climb over a 2-3 foot tall bathtub rim to get inside) and you have... If you have been to this hotel you know they have nature on their side. Set on an expansive piece of land in Capitol hill, hotel borders the government departmental offices as well as parliament and 5 min drive to the city center. For a long time this hotel has suffered neglect but thanks to their new manager you will... More

I stayed here for just one night on my way back to the airport from Blantyre. I had a beautiful room, double bed, tv, air con, fantastic shower, room service amazing. Staff are helpful, always have a smile on their face. Breakfast has everything from cooked breakfast to continental, plenty of fruit juices & tropical fruit. Word of warning- dont... More

Just spent one night at the Capital. Colleagues had warned against eating there, and I hadn't planned to anyway. It has been refurb'd I think, and my room was actually quite good. Good Internet access and a decent shower. The signage leaves a lot to be desired, the check out process was painful, which meant I didn't have time for... More

The room I stayed in had no hot water and the shower fittings were loose and falling off. There are renovations taking place in the garden area. The dinner was fair and the location of the hotel saves it. It needs a bit of attention.

As the prepare for the opening of the hotel across the road Sunbird is fighting back with a refurbishment program and it is improving. For me their refurb is so old style they have made a mistake but hey it is Africa. The biggest problem this hotel has is that everything is the same every day. Nothing changes in the... More

I've stayed at plenty of hotels with fewer amenities, but they also had fewer pretensions. I arrived after a trying four hour drive, and we were told to rush to catch the restaurant before it closed, and check in later. (The restaurant had no power so we only were able to have the buffet, which, like most buffets, has uninspiring... More

I stayed four nights at the Sunbird Capital hotel in Lilongwe in early November 2012. The hotel is located next to a large conference centre and government buildings, but far from everything else. My room was not very clean, and the air-conditioniong was not working properly. Mosquitos in the room made me a little bit neurotic at night. The breakfast... More

The rooms are small and the beds are confortable. There was no shortage of hotwater in the bathrooms. A good variety breakfast is included with the room. You can order an espresso or capuchino. Avoid sitting in the garden in the late afternoon to avoid the excessive smoke of the outdoor grill. When I was there they filled in the... More
