I recently stayed at the Golden Peacock with my family. Being the last night of our holiday having travelled around Malawi for 9 days it was a welcome to have lovely hot water, modern room and wifi. However, once I'd settled in to such luxuries that is where the positives end. The porter staff upon our arrival, however, were very... More

Golden Peacock is a surprising find in Lilongwe- its service is really great when staying here, laundry, housekeeping and restaurant.. Ive also attended meetings here and the conference rooms are the best in Lilongwe I have found in my year here. Sure the sinage is in Chinese and there are some oddities to the decor but overall its a really... More

We were disappointed with most aspects of this hotel with the local staff being the only plus! The carpets in the corridors and rooms were filthy to the extent that slippers were needed inside your room. The plumbing was atrocious and toilets did not flush properly. Most puzzling was the chines electrical plugs!! The chinese managers were surly and did... More

Stayed here for three nights on a business trip Impersonal, like many Chinese-built hotels, but I was impressed by the really friendly local staff. Several Chinese supervisors and chefs. 270 rooms, but hardly any guests. Brilliant breakfasts - western food and plenty of it. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, although the floor of my shower cubicle remained grubby. I... More

As you walk in, the one thing that will hit you is the Great Wall of China filling up the entire wall. The decoration and even the guest checkin form has a section in chinnese. Am not complaining, simply appreciating the consistency of the brand from the name and what you should expect. The rooms are very comfortable ranging from... More

Everything, yes everything, at the Golden Peacock is Chinese, including much of the staff and many of the guests. The style in the public areas and in the rooms is unmistakably Chinese, there are plenty of Chinese channels on the television, and of course there's a Chinese restaurant (there's also a Western style one though). The local staff are very... More

I had previously been to this hotel for a conference, but didnt bother staying at the hotel. Our flight was cancelled and the airline put us up at this hotel. Check in was smooth, only that they allocated me to a room that was being used as an office, and it took over 30 minutes to prepare it- I finally... More

The Golden Peacock has much to recommend it: fine pool, clean rooms, adequate food, proximity to the Golden Peacock Shopping Centre and Golden Peacock Conference Centre. For those not using Internet, that would be fine. The connectivity, however, is so dismal, both in the rooms and in the business center, that no serious business traveler can stay here for more... Despite all bad reviews I decided to give a try especially that it was warmly recommended by our host, room spacious and well equipped, but dirty, carpet, towels are grey pretending white shade, cleaning never came because in the time of cleaning I had a sign do not disturb (left hotel at 11 am and took away a sign came... As I pulled up to the hotel my expectations were high. Externally, it is impressive but that is where most of the positive aspects end. The staff are poorly trained - the front desk staff practically ignored while I checked in. While it should not be an issue, the hotel is owned by Chinese who also did not acknowledge me... More
