Everything about the River Camp was just perfect. The location on the banks of the Mandrare River is gorgeous. The staff and food were excellent. The trips were really interesting and gave a real insight into the life of this very remote corner of Madagascar.

We started our recent tour of Madagascar here and it was really great - service and facilities were excellent - this is called camping but it's not like anything we have experienced before - beds and bathrooms fabulous - the service and meals were outstanding and they offered us different locations for each of our meals. Wildlife guides very very... More

We arrived at Mandrare River Camp exhausted after a long, and very rough ride from Ft. Dauphin. We were greeted by Thomas, our fantastic host for the next few days. The tents were private and beautifully and comfortably appointed with lovely beds and large bathrooms. Each tent has a large deck overlooking the river. Each day, the village children would... More

For my husbands 50th Birthday he wanted to go to Madagascar. With our 10 year old daughter we traveled from California to the furthest point on the globe we could go. We knew this was once in a lifetime so we planned through Imagine Africa, 19 days with 3 key locations, Beach, Lemurs and Baobabs. Mandrare River Camp represented "Baobabs",... More

This is a fantastic place overall. It is run well, the South African manager(Jacques) is fantastic. The tents are very comfortable and bathrooms spacious. The guides are very knowledgeable and there are lots of different activities to do. We opted for a focus on wildlife and spent 2 days in the galleried forest. One day we spent just under 6... More

We went as a family, 3 year old, 6 year old, mum and dad. Amazing tented camp, lovely staff and excellent guides. THE place for seeing ring-tailed lemurs as well as other lemur species, birds and reptiles. Very supportive of the local community including community visits, we travel a lot i Africa with kids so are perhaps more used to... More

We had organized our travels in Madagascar to stay for 5 nights at Mandrare River Camp, and we were so glad that we did. One or two nights are definitely not enough. Getting there takes some time and effort, as the roads are pretty bad, which makes the trip tiring. However we found the trip quite interesting. Everything about the... More

This is a gem of a place. It has everything - well located permanent tents with huge bathrooms; superb food; great guides; magnificent and unusual scenery , animals, trees, and culture to absorb. The baobabs and spiny forest were photographically exciting , as well as watching the ring tailed lemurs playing, and learning the ancestral culture. The location of the tents... More

We stayed at Mandrare for 3 nights and were really hoping it was worth the effort to get there. We had a very early start in Tana to get a flight to Fort Dauphin, then we were warned about the 3.5 hour drive to the camp, but we had just had three weeks driving in Africa so we thought it... More
