We came for the wildlife and fell in love with the people!!! this is a world on its own... I am struggling to describe my time here because it was like nothing I had experience before.... the spiny forest is a unique place with weird vegetation and amazing wild life (lemurs, tortoise and birds heaven), the gallery forest (which you... Thanks Thomas it was worth the trip. Four hours from Port Dauphine for 100 KM -- all part of the experience. Thanks to my travelling companion and guide Sheilo who was so informative and patient and driver Ndreamer -- how can you drive those roads so safely and then do it allover again? The tent was great, the bed a... More

I had a fantastic time at Mandrare Camp & Manafiafy, the sister camp. Mandrare camp was a four hour drive from Fort Dauphin, really pretty drive through non existent cratered roads through this little explored Southern end of Mada (although flying in a tiny plane from Fort Dauphin is an option that I was not aware of, nor would I... Our stay at the Mandrare River Camp was the highlight of our 2-week exploration of Madagascar. We were impressed with how every detail of our time there was carefully planned by the staff to maximize the delights that awaited us in the rainforest and the spiny forest. The chef is superb, the server at mealtime was totally solicitous and even... More

This is an amazing camp on the riverside with luxury tents. The staff were friendly and helpful the food excellent, the guides are very knowledgable and there are some amazing things to see locally Getting there is not easy and the camp would benefit from an airstrip

The camp is a 5hr drive from Fort Dauphin through scenic changing countryside. On arrival we learned we were to be the only guests for the first 2 nights and days, so it felt very remote, but Andreas and the other staff were so welcoming and friendly we soon felt at home. Accom is in tents (with built-on spacious bathrooms)... More

We spent a wonderful 4 days at Mandrare River Camp the week before last in mid-October and I can thoroughly recommend it. The Mandrare Camp was quite unlike any other holiday we have ever been on. This is not only due to the unique and remarkable flora and fauna, but also the remoteness of the location, the lack of any... More

I am horribly late in writing this, but we stayed here last summer, and it was absolutely outstanding. The camp is one of the most idyllic settings, and the surrounding dessert is an absolute must on a trip to Madagascar. On arrival (after a long trip) you are taken up to the hill to see the sun set, and sip... More

We stayed here after 3 wonderful days at the Manafiafy lodge and were not disappointed! Although Manafiafy has a slightly more luxurious feel to it, I very much enjoyed the simplicity of Mandrare and it's more 'communal' feeling i.e. all the guests ate together. The tents are basic but clean and spacious enough for suitcases and whatnot. The beds were... More

We visited Mandrare as our first destination in Madagascar and were overwhelmed by the way the camp combines the impossible task of providing a all-comfotrs experience in the most remote and primitive subsistence farming envuronment we have encoutered anywhere. The beautiful location, wonderful people, comfortable tents with beautiful ensuite bathrooms and delicious variety of food ( how can they actually... More
