Clean hotel with friendly staff in the centre of town. Food in the restaurant is good and the cafe is v.good.

Normal rooms are a decent size, got a suite one night which is not a lot more expensive and rooms are very spacious.

Chose this hotel because of recommendation of a colleague in Tripoli. Price just about above average. Reception was efficient. Free fast Internet wifi. Breakfast and Buffet lunch was good but the service at breakfast was very poor. The location was very convenient very close to the center away from the main traffic which made it very convenient to come an go from for all our meetings. This hotel is clean and convenient , I will use it again when I next visit Libya.

I recently spent 4 nights in the Thobacts. Before I arrived I was rather concerned to see it was on a major artery into Tripoli, quite close to the main Green Square. I thought I'd have to ask for a room at the back, regardless of the often dismal view that results. Pleasantly surprised at the quiet when I went into my room; I opened the curtains and looked down on the main road but all sound was totally muffled by a double skin of insulation. Almost TOO quiet, tomb-like, and impossible to open the window but preferable to the alternative. The A/C was set at the right level, quiet, unnoticeable, so I left it strictly alone - I've found from past experience that generally no-one can show you how it works and I'm non-techie.

Good points:
- the bed was reasonably soft, not the rock-hard norm for hot countries. The bedding - duvets, sheets etc - was confusing to British eyes but all immaculately clean so I worked out how to adapt it to my needs.
- plenty of surfaces for your necessaries, guide-books, camera, day-bag, water bottle, mobile phone charger etc.
- good handbasin with rail under lip for towel, overnight washing etc. Also hook for hanging toilet bag, robe etc. Good towels. Slippers.
- perfect size for single traveller (maybe a little tight for 2, though I believe there were bigger rooms).
- breakfast had good variety though I avoided most of the cooked options.
- efficient lifts. Charming and smiling staff, though rather less efficient than the lifts. Room service rapid - but the hotel was fairly empty.

Criticisms:
- writing table needs a lamp. I suspect they could provide one if asked.
- shower rather small, soap tray awkwardly placed.
- took me 2 days to get the safe opened - it had been left shut by previous guest and the only man who had the key was on his day off . Make sure its open when you arrive. Heaven knows what you'd do if you forgot your code!!
- no safety chain on the door - twice staff knocked then opened door before I could get there and found me under-dressed...

Overall I was very happy at Thobacts and would certainly return.

Best business hotel and very friendly staff. The shower cubicle too small. Shower speed was slow. But the room quality was very good. Breakfast needs lot of improvement and very limited and only cold food. Need to improve the food quality .

Apart from facility, the friendly staff makes us more comfortable with stay

Booked in on a recommendation of Libyan colleagues. Excellent hotel, clean, bright and comfortable. Breakfast good and a good restaurant. The rooms are of a good size clean and the bed very comfortable. Pleased to say wifi throughout the hotel so business continuity was no problem. The staff are very helpful and speak very good English. Recommend it if you are in Tripoli.

I stayed at the Tobacts for 5 nights first for 3 nights then checked out and returned for two more. The hotel was chosen by my client and I'd never been to Tripoli so I didn't know what to expect. My experience was terrible. First I put in a room that had overwhelming smell of cigaret smoke. I asked if I could move to non-smoking room and was told no. The elevator was broken and would never go to my floor (I was on 5th floor). The internet connection was slow for "high-speed" and you could only log on to one device at at a time - my request for second passport was refused. The rooms were tiny with no dresser. The shower was tiny with really bad water pressure - and yet no way to avoid water while in - thought they did provide a shower cap.

When I returned for second visit - having to travel to Misurata for a few days I specifically asked if I could check into different room upon return so you can imagine my disappointment when I checked in for a second time and they assigned me to the exact same room. The manager was downright rude when I said I really wanted a different room - preferable one without strong smoke smell and on floor with working elevator. He simply refused.

I am going back to Tripoli for 2 more weeks but will not stay at this hotel again.
