This hotel and dining experience is very average but the location is excellent, an oasis of calm created by the large beautiful garden and all within 200m of Meksel Square. The rooms need updating, the dining experience is dull. The staff are pleasant.

This hotel was arranged by the tour company and I was disappointed in it. It does have lovely grounds and gardens. The interior dining services were confusing, the staff weren't as friendly, the rooms were clean, no complaints there. It just wasn't as welcoming as the other hotel I staid in in Addis. The restaurant across the garden was great.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days and it was average all round. Standard room and reminiscent of soviet style decor. Nothing special but just comfortable. Seems to be part of a chain of similar hotels in Ethiopia and the hotel we stayed at in Gondar was decorated in exactly the same way.

When we arrived at Ghion, it was hard to believe how much of an oasis it is, considering it is a few hundred meters away from Meksel square. It is almost quiet, and thanks to the fairly big park. The staff could be better, but was mostly accommodating. Some miscommunications, but it all worked out fine in the end. The... More

This hotel is central, right in the middle of the chaotic trafic, but the great park ,well kept and green, makes an oasis of peace. The rooms are clean, the breackfast buffet good. be sure, when you check in,to ask for the price "all included". It is not overpriced like most of the hotels in rhe town. the bus station is right in front of... More

The only frustrating experience I had was trying to accurately (according to Tripadvisor policy) write a review for the other amenities on the Ghion Hotel property. To be clear and fair this is not a review of the Hotel, I did not stay in the hotel and have no comment on that aspect. I have been working in Addis for... More

Room is fairly old but clean. Had problem with sink in bathroom but that was cleared up straight away. Reception staff were cery nice and receptive. Hotel is in excellent location, near Meskel Square, but is far enough away from street to be quiet. All in all, i had a pretty comfortable stay.

Yes the Sheraton and Hilton are nicer, newer and have better rooms in Addis and better European food, but you will pay a high price as is that why you have gone to Ethiopia? This hotel is a relic from the Communist era that has its own charms. The Ghion has one of the best Ethiopian cuisine restaurants in Addis... More

Vast gardens of vine, yucca and palms are the main reason to stay here as a respite from the dust generated by all the construction in Addis. The foyer, with its deep leather sofas and retro-feel is also an atmospheric place to while away a few hours. While on the hotel's good points, it's also fair to say that the... More

Very pleasant gardens at this hotel with lots of bird life. Garden café is a nice place for a lunch. Good choice of local and faranji food with a choioce of restaurants on the premises. there is also a swimming pool on site. Rooms are quite basic but comfortable. Despite being spring fed there is still the odd issue with... More
