As other reviewers have noted the Ghion is a little faded. The decor is very 1970s, its pot luck whether the water is hot and the prices are at the upper end of reasonable. Having said that it is centrally located in the very centre of Addis and is surrounding by some very large gardens that warrant a leisurely wander.... More

Best to begin by saying that I only stayed in 2 hotels (as well as 13 camping sites) in Ethiopia so it's difficult to compare The Ghion with standards in other Addis hotels. Hence 3 stars for a hotel I'd give 2 stars in a different location. I stayed here twice: once before commencing a Simien Mountains trek and once... More

We stayed here 3 separate times whilst on a tour of Ethiopia with Explore. We had a day room here on arrival before flying to Harar, and then stayed a night when we came back on the way up north, and finally a day room before leaving. As everyone has said the grounds are beautiful with the added advantage of... More

This extensive hotel is only a short drive from the airport making it a convenient location to stay. We chose to stay here principally because of the extensive and well maintained grounds which are a pleasure to walk around and full of birds - including several Ethiopian endemics. The hotel itself is large and sprawling, with a variety of rooms,... More

Stayed at the Ghion 3 times - at the start, middle and end of my Ethiopia trip. The gartdens were nice, the rooms run down, some worse than others. Not all had hot water. One had a strange smell. All those I stayed in had charging points for my camera etc. On none of my visits was the internet centre... More

This was our first hotel in Ethiopia, and we did not choose to return. On the plus side, there are nice gardens in front of the hotel, allowing for walking , stretching, and some time out of the hubbub that is Addis. However, the food is generally dull, and the rooms inexcusably tacky for its location in A large city.... More

Touring Ethiopia with a group for two weeks, we were brought here for a few hours after our overnight flight from the UK (before flying to Dire Dawa) and were pleasantly surprised to find that each couple had been given a room for a few hours. There is a branch of one of the main banks here and their exchange... More

Coming here after a more rustic stay outside Addis made the Ghion seem great! My room was a twin and was light and spacious. Plenty of hot water, decent towels, and a balcony. It was very old fashioned, and felt tired and run down. Only 1 socket that I could use for charging. Staff were very helpful and responded quickly... More

One thing is for sure: this very central place near Mesquel square is the most quiet hotel in town. Surrounded by gardens, the only noise during the night or early morning are the birds singing. The rooms, as well as the lobby, are spacious and clean, and staff is really friendly. Obviously the location is great if you want to... More

The hotel is OK. The staff are friendly. I was in Addis for a medical mission and had several Ghoin staff asking me to help them with their eyesight (??). I also had people (workers? guests?? not sure who they were?) follow me into my room asking me for Chapstick. The Peace Corps was there while we were visiting, and... More
