Was astonished to be approached IN THE GROUNDS, IN SIGHT OF GUARDS, by pleasant teenager claiming to be off-duty bell-boy. We stayed here for 3 nights for $89 pn--booked via email. Breakfast was not good but lunch was very nice. We also ate at the restaurant on the top of the hill on the lovely grounds. Rooms vary from run down in the main block. more modern in the blocks by the pool and strange large suites for the same price behind the hotel. I traveled with a group and admit the experience varied. I personally had no trouble with my room, although some complained of water issues. The grounds are lovely. The restaurants are excellent. And, the onsite shops are reasonable. I always felt safe and well attended to. For the price, I consider it an excellent option. more

The Ghion is a very dated hotel in much need of refurbishment. It is set in the most magnificent gardens and has a pool (although it did not look particularly inviting). The bird life in the gardens is amazing and the rooms have good balconies where you can observe this as well as listening to the sounds of the city.... more
