One thing is for sure: this very central place near Mesquel square is the most quiet hotel in town. Surrounded by gardens, the only noise during the night or early morning are the birds singing. The rooms, as well as the lobby, are spacious and clean, and staff is really friendly. Obviously the location is great if you want to... More

The hotel is OK. The staff are friendly. I was in Addis for a medical mission and had several Ghoin staff asking me to help them with their eyesight (??). I also had people (workers? guests?? not sure who they were?) follow me into my room asking me for Chapstick. The Peace Corps was there while we were visiting, and... More

I stayed here before a trek and felt it was as others have said run down a little grubby and had been left without any maintenance for some time. However the staff were all nice, the lobby area where we did a lot of waiting was clean and comfy. One socket did not want to charge my phone so I... More

I stayed here for one day/night at the start of a holiday, and then had a day room before flyng out. It was like being in two different hotels - the room and bathroom on the first night (upstairs) were really run down. There were no plug sockets, wires were taped into the wall or left sticking out with no... More

Good Location. Run down Government hotel. Rooms really need updating. Very small, toilets don't flush very well. Gardens are lovely, and spa and pool. Really good Chinese restaurant just outside the gates. Coffee bar was ok for a sandwich (Ethiopian style). Ethnic restaurant was good. There are definitely better hotels in Addis

We stayed at the Ghion Hotel for just a few hours, really, after getting into Addis Ababa after midnight and then leaving to catch a late morning flight the next day. While the lobby is attractive, the first impression of the hallway while walking to our room was of a run-down, second-rate hotel. Entering the room confirmed that impression. All... More

I loved the location and the hotel but I had a problem with the staff. I was traveling with the Explorer travel group in late February. I prepaid for my stay with the group and on additional night. When I got there I was told that there was no record of my payment and I was asked to pay again.... More

If you like weddings you will love th eghion. the gardens ar ea hotspot for the weddings of young rich people who blend Ethiopian culture with western style dress and partying. we counted 18 weddings going on at he same time in the magnificent gardens!. Otherwise this hotel is like steeping bck to the 70s. It is comfortable enough and... More

The Ghion is a retro throwback amongst the modern Addis "International Style" hotel explosion. It's decor is insistentlty 1970s, though the hotel dates from the 1950s. It has 191 rooms, two restaurants and an Olympic size swimming pool and actual parking spaces (rare in Addis), set within twelve hectares of gardens; a green lung in an increasingly crowded and polluted...
