Be careful taking tours with Adimasu tours. Adimasu is the operator - his tour guides can be ok to great. Look for Chapy - he has his own tour company, speaks fluent English and is a solid, dependable and lovely demeanor. Adimasu tried to talk me out of going to the place I wanted to go to, Ziway Lake. He... More

The Taitu Hotel does have a great garden for meeting fellow travellers but do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere and just visit for dinner or a drink. I emailed Taitu a few days before my arrival and heard nothing so ended up calling them the day of my arrival and they allocated me a room, I arrived quite late... More

I wasn't convinced by the dark, tiled corridors or the even gloomier bathrooms - and yet, I still returned to stay there again when we came back through Addis. Its a special place. The main building belongs to a different time in Ethiopia's rich and fascinating history. There are too few buildings of this style that have survived. The shaded... More

This hotel in the Piassa of Addis Ababa was built in 1905. There was recently a fire at the hotel and it was said that there was a renovation in the hotel very quickly. I stayed in the hotel for one night and the room was terrible. The bath looked dirty, but I believe that it was all the grime... More

We made the move from Atelefugne, to get a better location (ended up hating Piazza though), a bit cheaper room and some of that old-style feel. As you enter Taitu you're impressed. The restaurant is lovely (though the food wasn't very good, we soon realised) and it all looks well-maintained. We thought we had made the right choice. But then... More

I stayed multiple days here and it's quite overpriced for the terrible conditions offered. the good: the location is decent, though there are a lot of con artists in the area. The building has a lot of character. The bad: everything else. The rooms are in decrepid conditions. Falling apart, toilets don't work or don't have toilet seats, all together... More

We stayed here in early January before the Jan 10, 2015 fire. We had upgraded to a room in the old part, which had character if not very clean. Our Ethiopia tour guide booked us in again to one of the "new" rooms, but when we showed up the room hadn't been cleaned. The garbage was full, the toilet was... More

It must have been a very nice hotel, once...it has very nice reviews on the Lonely Planet but... When I was there the main building was burned down by a fire at the beginning of January 2015. I made my reservation by phone and the reception didn´t mention the fact or even that they couldn` t assure basic comforts anymore... More

I’m glad we stayed in the historic Taitu hotel during our trip, because I have just noticed a new story that a fire destroyed 75 % of the main building past weekend, so no more hotel or jazz bar! It is true there were many things that could have been better, but this definitely was not how its story was... More

We spent the month of December 2014 at Taitu Hotel. It is still a very conveniant and cheap option for a central location in Addis. We stayed in the cabins in the courtyard with common bathrooms. Their state depend of their users. Ethiopian clients unfortunately tend to leave a mess behind, especially the concept of toilets (WC = water closet….)... More
