I returned to Ethiopia after 13 years and stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Addis because the other alternative was the ridiculously priced Sheraton. At $275 for b&b and an additional $25 for internet connectivity, the Hilton is also not cheap. However the rooms have not been upgraded at all, the carpets are threadbare, the rooms stink of Ethiopian curry... more

This is typical for the HIltons outside of the US, the hotels were built 20 years ago but don't get renovated. Although the rooms were clean, the amenties are so old that they never really feel clean. The lobby was always smokey. Breakfast was good and affordable. more

The Hilton is one of the oldest high-end hotels in Addis. It does need some updating. The room was okay. It was nice to have a balcony, though I had to fight with the door to get it closed and locked. It was interesting to be in a hotel completely filled with Americans. A lot of non-profits, government and military... more

The central location, the quiet and relaxed atmosphere inside, the superb food, the excellent swimming pool, the spacious rooms, the friendly and professional service... and all at less than USD 100 a night was an absolute steal - especially compared to 5-star hotels in India, which charge astronomical prices (around USD 400-500 per night) for similar quality of service. The... more

The best thing about this hotel is the location, you can walk everywhere. The swimming pool water was from the local springs and was lovely and warm. It was a great place for a chill out and just relax. Because of the location you could walk out side the gates and you are around the local pubs, restaurants, and culture.... more

VERY expensive hotel! If you like to spend $300 a night, it's for you! Breakfasts very expensive ($18 for continental, $23 for the other: expensive bol of cereals!) and not included (even if I am a Gold member). Thank you Mr "Front desk manager" Yonas Moges. The pool does not use chlorine so I'll spare you the details of what... more

Essentially, the hotel was what I expected. We were in Addis Ababa to attend a friend's wedding. As an experienced Africa traveler, I got exactly what I expected. Nice common areas, friendly staff and rooms that could need some updating. The friendly staff and the nice common areas make up for the mediocre rooms. I think that if they updated... more

Hilton is like an enclave in the city; it has its own 'western' supermarket, lots of shops, restaurants, a gym and a pool where all the expats come to over the weekend. Rooms are nice but a bit dated. Quite a bit of security. You can rent a mobile phone from the business center (foreign sim cards don't work!) The... more

Stayed here to conduct a training workshop for local people so experienced both the hotel rooms and the meeting rooms. The staff are friendly and the rooms are adequate, but the lack of air conditioning is disappointing. It was cool during our stay but having to open the windows meant we got noise coming into the meeting rooms and that... more

Stayed here two consecutive nights, then a third night later in the week after traveling in the northern highlands. Rooms in the main building (tower) have a faded glory in dire need of a remodel, but are clean and offer good views. Third night was spent in the garden wing, where rooms are bigger and newer, but not necessarily better... more
