This hotel is not as old as reviewers believe - it opened about 2000. It was once the best hotel in Luanda. I haven't stayed there since 2002 and wouldn't go back if I could avoid it. Despite being decorated in quite lively colours it managed to be quite depressing, and unwelcoming, with looped Portuguese music about loss and homesickness... More

I rank it below average for a few reasons: 1. The rooms are very basic (2 singles placed next to each other) and feel old. While clean, the rooms just didn't project a warm feeling. 2. While I am not sure of the exact price because I was on a company trip, it reminded me of an old Best Western.... More

I stay here for 4 weeks at a time due to work. There are 4 stars as you come in the door to reception, I think these 4 stars are for how many times you are going to get sickness and diarrhea each week due to the food. There is a buffett every night and its is the same food... More

Over priced hotel.only advantage is the wifi that luckily was working in my room. I stayed for 5 weeks and the hotel is full of oil workers. Rooms need renovation and the food quality is average. I don't recommend it unless you have to. Luanda is a very expensive city with no specific reason.

Well located in the heart of the city, nice but small pool, very nice gym, a rather good buffet (at 70USD per person !!) but rooms that do not match the 4 stars rating of the hotel. The rooms facing the main street are very noisy, double glasing does not exist, windows are probably over 20 years old, carpets also....... More

As Alvalade 4-star hotel does not have Internet for 3 years, every time I come to Luanda (I come frequently, 2 weeks monthly) and Baia 4-star hotel was full, I decided to go to Tropico, from the same group, TD hotels. It stays in a district called Kinaxixi. The street has a lot of garbage and some rats, but it... More

After reading other reviews, I was expecting quite a poor experience when staying here while delivering a training course. Far from it - it's the best hotel that I've stayed in in Luanda and excellent overall. My room was on the 10th floor and was large, clean, modern, well equipped and had a great view across the bay. It's true... More

For sure overpriced, but this is Luanda, it's the average price for a hotel there. The only thing that could be acceptable is the buffet (forget about its price which is 70USD!) which is quite rich. Otherwise the rooms are old, dark, not so clean, and I almost got an asthma crisis last time I was there because of I... More

The hotel is old, the service is average, the rooms are just ok, the Internet is hit and miss, as it is normal for Luanda the price is high. The only saving grace is the food, the buffet is quite decent.

To actually get a room in Luanda is almost impossible and we were lucky to organise 2 for a recent trip at this hotel. THe rooms are old and filty but sdtrangely the towels and linen on the bed are clean and good. The room curtains were filthy black at the back of them and the window were never cleaned.... More
