I liked a lot the hotel, it is an old-style house with extremely nice rooms and decorated with taste that I would recommend to anyone. So nice place, the service is a different story: slow, they forget to bring you things (including salt and napkins) when you ask for them. They are extremely friendly and useful but also inconstistent...the first... More

It's always a good sign when you wish you could stay longer. My review of the Dar El Medina is being written months after we stayed there last June 2014 - but my sentiments still hold true: the hotel is adorable and perfect for a stay in Tunis' old Medina. When we arrived, Ramadan was in full swing. Upon check-in,... More

Was excited to stay here, expecting an experience akin to the riads in Morocco. Unfortunately we were very disappointed, enough so to cancel our second stay and go elsewhere. The room was tiny; couldn’t even walk between the bed and the wall without stubbing my toes on either the wall or the bedframe. The bed was rock-hard, and the pillows... More

We stayed in a wonderful room up top and it was very nicely done. The breakfast was great also. Lots of bread as is the Tunisian way. It could have used a little more fruit. This place is a traditional house/ hotel in the Medina and you won't go wrong staying here. The location is great also.

Second stay at the Dar and yet again they accommodated us at short notice. This is a great hotel with the most helpful and pleasant staff, but with little things detracting that could so easily be fixed: Good breakfast, but the same thing every day; staff smoking in reception (Tunisia is still a "smoke-indoors-country"); dead light bulbs, etc. The heating... We expected a lot from this hotel, after seeing its pictures from the web site and after reading some reviews. The result was sad, unpleasant and absolutely deceiving. The hotel in itself is a restored, lovely and not large old building with plenty of romantic and exotic touches. The cleaning however leaves much to be desired (a lovely old sitting... More

We spent the last two nights of our 12 days in Tunisia here. It's a beautified older house right smack in the medina, down the street from the Casbah, where there's the changing of the guard and other government buildings. We were in a top floor "junior suite" that had sweeping views of Tunis. The room was a bit odd;... More

If you want to stay in a museum like building - and the plumbing etc though ancient does work - this is the place for you. But be prepared for a very odd breakfast (a small ration of cake, orange juice, bread, processed cheese, butter, halva and jam) served in a ritual and painfully slow fashion. The staff are well... Based on their website, I had great expectations of this hotel. It's just the sort of place I love: atmospheric, exotic, off the beaten track, full of character. And, in those areas, it did not disappoint. But. The staff (especially the male desk clerk who works the late afternoon/evening shift) was incompetent at best. Within the first few minutes of my... Dar El Medina is a lovely small hotel / riad at the edge of the Medina. The hotelier is quite nice and the rooms were spacious. When my air conditioning didn't work (and it must in that humidity!), I was quickly moved to a larger room that had working a/c. Terrific place to visit Tunis from.
