When in Dar, I have almost always stayed at the Kempinski. Now that Kempinski management is discontinued, the property is trading as Hyatt Regency.
The hotel is still a good choice, however my reading from the most recent stay was that the staff may not be as friendly and helpful as it used to be. Perhaps coincidental, perhaps a sign...

I stayed at the Kilimanjaro for 1 night while in transit. It was formerly a Kempinski and seems to be the best place to stay in Dar. Everything was good about this place. It had a comfortable room, a nice bar area with good service, and a good restaurant (we dined at Oriental restaurant). I would recommend this hotel to...

Just completed first business trip to Dar es Salaam, and was a little skeptical when I saw the outside of the hotel that it would be outdated (it's an older structure), but could not have been happier with my stay. In every part of the hotel, the staff was friendly and compentent. Room was spacious, well appointed and maintained. Food...

After spending 3 weeks on a safari and Zanzibar, it was great to find a very modern hotel with modern amenities!
Dar is a very dusty and noisy city. It was great to return to the quietness of the Hyatt. Obviously this is not a hotel where you will experience Tanzania but for a business trip or a break, it...

I stayed 3 nights at the Hyatt Kilimanjaro mid December 2011 on business and thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Warm welcome at reception; super helpful staff; impeccable room; twice a day maid service; quick response to any issue raised; wonderful breakfast!
Certainly worth the price (and it is a bit pricey!)
Will stay again!

I travel through Dar at least 4 times a year and frequently stayed at The Kilimanjaro when it was run by Kempinski. Over the years, for whatever reason, the standards dropped and I was on the verge of looking for an alternative.
Last month I stayed there for the first time since Hyatt took over the management and I have...

Twice recently I had the pleasure to stay at the Kilimanjaro - now a Hyatt - and I enjoyed it very much. The rooms are wonderful, especially those with a view of the water and harbour. The public areas are very tastefully remodelled, staff are friendly and helpful. I remember the hotel from the 1980s when it was government-owned and...

We stayed here for a couple of nights. Our room was well equipped with a great view over the busy harbor. Food in the restaurant was adequate, but nothing special, although service there and at the front desk was very good. Wireless Internet was absurdly slow.
Overall a good if not great experience.

I stayed in this hotel several times, but last one was in July 2011, when I realized it wasn't managed by Kempinski anymore but Hyatt. The rooms are comfortable, wide, clean, with a good design, room service is still good, tv channels are ok, internet service is ok, restaurant on ground floor is good and staff is still nice. Although...
