The good thing is they have a cafeteria,a mini mart that sells beer on site and holiday inn is right across the street. The building is very sketchy n seems abandoned. The staff were rude especially the lady at the reception who tried to fool us the rooms were fully booked barely 5 minutes after she confirmed she had rooms... More

I remember this place to be dirty and there was a hole in my bed. Balcony doors did not lock and there was some dubious looking cooking going on on an open fire beneath my room. Okay if you're stuck and are desperate, but otherwise avoid.

We stayed both at the YWCA (on the other side of the church) and the YMCA. Personally I didn't like the YMCA as much because of the showers. They have no doors, just curtains. No place inside the shower to hang clothes up, which results in you having to come out of the shower naked to grab your towel and... More

So the bed broke in the middle of the night. And the water wasn't working (we're talking about toilets, sinks and showers here people). The girl at the desk was less then helpful, and was only good for taking our money. We wouldn't have paid if they didn't take the money upfront - we didn't get a bed to sleep... More

This accomadation is very cheap - to cheap! I woke up in the middle of the night realising that their where bed bugs. This is a horrible place! Unsafe and very dirty! It is next to a main road without propper windows - which means that it is impossible to have more than three hours of sleep anyway. Don´t go... More

The area around this YMCA might not be the safest, but it´s close to everything. The basic rooms were pretty dirty the last time I visited in 2008, and well, -- today the mosquito-nets are so filthy, your hands turn brown when you touch them. I really wish they would do something about that! But the desk-front lady, "Mama" is very,... More

The YMCA is located in the centre of town, and provides the very basic accommodation especially backpackers might be looking for. It's appears to be a dark and dodgy place, but once inside the actual compound it isn't too bad. It has a diner with a few standard dishes -ask what they have, never trust the menu, like anywhere else... More

I only gave this place three stars because we arrived at 1am without a booking and with no money and they let us stay using our passports as money. This is a place for convenience only. I would recommend other places in Dar es Salaam - this was one of three places that we stayed when we were in Dar... More

The room we stayed in had a fan, but it only worked sometimes. The beds were dirty, the toilet didnt flush, the floor in the "bath room" was always wet and the electrisity went out at least once a day. The locking system also felt really unsafe. Wouldn´t be hard to break through that. Also the door to our room... More

I'm backpacking through East Africa with a couple of friends and we decided to give YMCA a try for a night after our train from Dar to Zambia was delayed for a day. We called them and asked for the price for a triple and they said 27,000 Shillings total for the room but when we got there, they asked... More
