Yes it needs a lick of paint and its basic but the sheets where clean, the staff lovely, i felt very safe, yummy cheap food and stella the taxi driver is fantastic and will look after you very well. Location is great to wharf and everything else you need. I looked at rooms for $45 a night in Dar and... More

When going to the YMCA, one will prob not expect any luxury. But you get everything you need, it's very central and cheap (TSH18k dorm/ TSH28k double), there are mosquito nets, they got a nice and tasty bbq outside and a decent breakfast (standard combo of omlette, fruits, jam and bread/ chapati). The rooms were reasonably clean with nice cealing... More

The building is sketchy and seems to be abandoned, the bed was comfortable and clean, but the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The location is good and you can find a nice Holiday Inn right across the street so that gives the area a safety feeling and a plus. The price you pay is overrated compared to what you get.

The good thing is they have a cafeteria,a mini mart that sells beer on site and holiday inn is right across the street. The building is very sketchy n seems abandoned. The staff were rude especially the lady at the reception who tried to fool us the rooms were fully booked barely 5 minutes after she confirmed she had rooms... More

I remember this place to be dirty and there was a hole in my bed. Balcony doors did not lock and there was some dubious looking cooking going on on an open fire beneath my room. Okay if you're stuck and are desperate, but otherwise avoid.

We stayed both at the YWCA (on the other side of the church) and the YMCA. Personally I didn't like the YMCA as much because of the showers. They have no doors, just curtains. No place inside the shower to hang clothes up, which results in you having to come out of the shower naked to grab your towel and... More

So the bed broke in the middle of the night. And the water wasn't working (we're talking about toilets, sinks and showers here people). The girl at the desk was less then helpful, and was only good for taking our money. We wouldn't have paid if they didn't take the money upfront - we didn't get a bed to sleep... More

This accomadation is very cheap - to cheap! I woke up in the middle of the night realising that their where bed bugs. This is a horrible place! Unsafe and very dirty! It is next to a main road without propper windows - which means that it is impossible to have more than three hours of sleep anyway. Don´t go... More

The area around this YMCA might not be the safest, but it´s close to everything. The basic rooms were pretty dirty the last time I visited in 2008, and well, -- today the mosquito-nets are so filthy, your hands turn brown when you touch them. I really wish they would do something about that! But the desk-front lady, "Mama" is very,... More

The YMCA is located in the centre of town, and provides the very basic accommodation especially backpackers might be looking for. It's appears to be a dark and dodgy place, but once inside the actual compound it isn't too bad. It has a diner with a few standard dishes -ask what they have, never trust the menu, like anywhere else... More
