You'll be charmed by this riad in the Arab-Andalusian architecture. the limited capacity of 5 suites and 3 rooms, allows you to customize the contacts and to take the time to settle down in an harmonious décor. the patio filled with green plants offer more intimate corners for reading. A library is available and full of books on the history and cultures of Morocco and the art of oriental cooking but also something to prepare for documenting his visits to the medina and its surroundings.

Riad chosen by our travel agent. Handily placed close to a Medina gate means there is just a 100m walk to the Riad. The staff are adorable and only want to please. The grey parrot was very entertaining singing It’s a long way to Tipperary. He doesn’t like men so guys watch your fingers! Good firm beds, bottled water in room, spacious bathroom, great courtyard for meals and relaxing and a roof terrace that is comfortable. The highlight here though is the food. Order dinner at breakfast and you will have a wonderful evening meal. There is a seriously good cook working here.

After travelling around Morocco for 2 weeks this was our favorite Riad by far. It is located just a 1 minute walk from Bab Ziat which is easily accessible by taxi as a drop off point so no worries about bringing luggage to the riad. The staff was so welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast/dinner menu changes daily. It was always excellent and generous. Overall a great experience and would recommend to any travellers.

The Riad itself is truly lovely & the public areas & rooms are just as pictured & very impressive in decoration. The owner obviously has a good eye for details which is evident throughout the property which is a visual masterpiece overall. Good housekeeping is found in the lobby/courtyard & rooms but was shockingly ignored on the rooftop terrace which was not just rundown but filthy. Old, rundown, rust-covered, dirty seating cushions laying on the floor. Furniture that had not been cleaned in months perhaps & trash laying on the floor. When we expressed our shock to the manager-on-duty who was unfailingly polite & courteous & eager to help, he claimed there had been rain 2 days prior which was the reason for the unsightly terrace condition, but what we experienced was weeks-to-months of inattention to housekeeping & detail. The furniture cushions did not become as dirty as we saw in only 2 days & the furniture condition spoke volumes about a lengthy lack of attention, as did the poor terrace housekeeping. Was also totally unimpressed by the quality of the bed linens but want to specifically compliment the owner on high-quality plumbing fixtures, which WORK without experiencing any unpleasant problems. Also one of the best breakfast offerings we experienced in 9 days in Morocco, with top quality service to match. Be forewarned that if you plan to eat dinner at Al Bartal you MUST make a reservation in advance. Even though there were only 4 occupied rooms during our stay & we asked at 4:00PM to make a dinner reservation for 7:30 that evening, we were told it was not possible. Yet we only saw 2 tables of 2 persons each actually eating during the evening. Strange. We strolled 5 minutes around the corner to the spectacularly beautiful Palais Faraj for dinner, which is a MUST visit when in Fes. Overall, we enjoyed Riad Al Batal which is definitely a lovely, beautifully decorated choice in Fes, but "details" make a huge difference. Convenient location only 1/2 bock from 1 of the old Medina's entrance gates.

Huge Riad on the edge of fes medina. Amazing art, furniture on all floors. Staff were helpful and attentive. Breakfast amazing and we were stuffed. Some people had dinner which looked wonderful. They serve beer and wine which was a bonus and at a good price. Roof terrace was big with good views. We stayed in the Berber room which had the lounge and bathroom on the ground floor and bedroom upstairs. I think some rooms were all on one level . Only downside was poulet the African grey parrot in a small cage. Looked healthy and squawked alot but I felt it was cruel for such an intelligent big bird…..it should be free.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Riad Al Bartal for 2 nights and it was amazing! The riad itself and the rooms are stunning, the service is 5-star, and the food is the best we had our entire time in Morocco (seriously, book the dinner, you won't be disappointed!). The location is also great, it's only about a 10 minute walk to the Blue Gate and it's close enough to the edge of the medina walls making it super easy to navigate to with a taxi. I can't wait to come back and stay here again!!!

We recommend staying at this Riad when you visit Fez. It is conveniently located a short walk from a street where your taxi can easily get you there, and it's a short walk to a main gate to the Medina. It's BEAUTIFUL! The photos do not even do it justice. We also had dinners at the Riad - the best food we had in Morocco. You can also buy beer and wine, so that's big plus. I contacted Riad al Bartal before we arrived, and they set up some affordable tours, transfers, Covid tests for us. Thanks to Ray and Omar for making it easy! I miss the delicious tagines and that amazing peach dessert. Our room was spacious and I felt like I lived in a palace!

Excellent riad to stay in Fès! Once you enter the place you arrive "in the garden of Eden". Very friendly welcome and hospitality by the host. Rooms of high quality, decorated to perfection. For dinner wealso stayed at the riad, and the 3-course meal, with a beef tajin as main course was delicious. Parking for the car was arranged via the riad and is located just around the corner.
