The latest Algeria guidebook in English is from 2008, and the bit on this hotel might be simply in need of an update. But so far (a week into my stay in Algeria) this represents the biggest dissonance between the reality and the book. What (in 2008) was supposed to be the only 5 star hotel of the city seems... I always prefer to stay here, as i call it the St Georges hotel before it was arabized to El Djazair hotel, owned and managed by government staff, who really don't know the meaning of service. The property is a heaven of peace in the middle of a hectic city. Great old architecture, with new wing with aluminum and plastic...... More

First off, the hotel itself is a beautiful property. It has a wonderful large pool, and a beautiful garden. The place is steeped in history and just being there feels significant. That's where the good part ends. The service is below average. On more than one occasion in the lounge waiters would just walk by me, even though I was... More

Very historical place, its like coming from a James Bond movie in Sean Connery days...Its well located in Algiers center. The service could improve as its slow. Also the rooms need some refurbishment in terms of decor and amenaties. Vintage is nice, old and not working its a tottally different story. Anyway you need to visit it at least once

Beautiful hotel...the hotel was built in 1889.....management has kept the building in its original form with slight renovation..... The lobby is really amazingly beautiful... Standard rooms Are not spacious but has a balcony facing the sea and it looks amazing.....not a budget hotel......

Stayed for 3 days on business. Room service is a lucky dip. Iron filthy. Wifi useless. Overcharged whenever they could get away with it. Lovely place once though. Beautiful areas (hotel). Great gym. Try another hotel if you can. Not what it was.

I went to Algiers for work. Check-in was efficient. My room was very small with terrible finishings, seems like a reno is overdue. I looked around, no iron. Why isn't there an iron in a 5-star hotel at over 250 euros a night? I call frontdesk: "Can I please have an iron to iron my shirt before I go to... More

Only stayed one night at this hotel, but have visited its bar and restaurants many times. The hotel must be one of the oldest class hotels in Algiers, and is certainly the most iconic, where you can walk the same corridors as Churchill, Eisenhower and Montgomery, and see the huge picture gallery of historic characters and celebrities that have stayed... A hotel full of history. During the 2nd world war this hotel was the head office of the allied forces for North Africa. Eisenhower stayed here. It is a very classical hotel with Algerian style interior and beautiful lobby and halls. Rooms are not big but good enough and anice balcony. There is a fitness centre with sauna. The swimming... I had to stay in El Djazair hotel part of my business trip to Algeria, The hotel location is good in the center and near to everything. The hotel decoration is amazing it is old and you can feel how great this hotel was. The hotel rooms are old but sound proof which was perfect. The garden is amazing and... More
