My husband and I recently stayed unexpectedly at the Montebello Inn when we could not find hotel accomodations for Iowa State University's Parents Weekend this past September. What a wonderful discovery! We were greeted by our hosts on arrival from a long plane flight from New Jersey with fresh brewed coffee. Our room had wonderful views of the Iowa prairie... more

I was absolutely delighted that my family chose to have my nephew's wedding at Montebello this past weekend. His wedding was on the terrace by the garden's that are outside the kitchen. It was amazing - the flowers of the garden actually matched the colors of the wedding! A coincidence, but quite lovely. My favorite picture from the wedding shows... more

I attended a wedding at MonteBello June 6th. Upon arriving I ran into the Mother of the Bride in the driveway. She informed me that the owner was parking cars and had concerns about having to do this, that it was not his job to park cars but he was concerned about how people were parking them. The mother was... more

My fiance' and I were married outside at this bed andbreakfast last weekend. Daphne & Heime own this "business". We decided to rent out all of the rooms, and the whole outside area for our wedding. In addition we rented the space for the rehearsal dinner. We had spoken with, and met the owners several times before, and they assured... more

I personally didn't stay here, but I reserved 2 rooms for my family who was coming in for my graduation. The setting is lovely and quiet. Daphne and Jaime are wonderful hosts who serve great and filling breakfasts. Guests at this B&B can bring guests for breakfast. So 2 mornings I was also served breakfast along with my family. It... more

After hours and hours on the road, I found my way to the Montebello and I was greeted by the warmth of Daphne and Jaime. The Montebello features not only beautiful rooms and delicious meals but also the comfort of home away from home - Daphne and Jaime are wonderful people who made me feel so relaxed and welcome. The... more

We spent one night on our way across country. After driving for ten hours, we arrived. It's easy to find. The MonteBello is right outside Ames, with expansive views of cornfields, a pond put in by the owners, Daphne & Jaime, lovely kitchen garden & roses, too. I have traveled in Mexico a few times, and this place is much... more

This place is amazing. The rooms are huge and very well decorated. The breakfast is good, but not Mexican, sadly. The downstairs common area is a Mexican art gallery - very pretty. And the owners are very friendly. The price is inline with many of the hotels in town. The location isn't great - you have to have a car... more

I highly recommend the MonteBello if you want a weekend of relaxation and excellent hospitality in one of the most beautiful b and b's in the Midwest. The Montebello innkeepers have built a "prairie hacienda," an inn stucco walls, ceilings and doors painted in vibrant blues, yellows and greens, with Mexican and Central American art, furniture, books and textiles tastefully... more
