This motel was very simple but super clean and comfortable. The room was basic with no frills, but with everything to see in Amana we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. The staff was friendly and helpful. the motel is centrally located, everything was within walking distance. We would stay there again!

Tried to get a hotel room on Interstate 80 & found all of them full. We always eat dinner at the Ox Yoke Inn in Amana, Iowa. So we tried the Guest House Motel in Amana. It is a small hotel centrally located in town. The room & bath were clean. It is a basic motel & could use some... More

The motel is a bit old, and amenities are few (while there was AC and an LED TV, soap and shampoo was minimal), the room was clean and the proprietors were friendly. You need to ask to borrow a hair dryer (no cost); I'm assuming an iron and ironing board are also available to borrow. The motel is situated perfectly... More

Thank you for staying with us - and thank you for giving us an average rating - despite having some disappointments. I have to say that most of our guests do not consider the need to ask at the front desk for free use of a hair dryer or ironing board as "roughing it". Also, if 2 bars of soap... More

As other reviews have stated, this is not a fancy hotel. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable but it does not provide any real "extras." It would be very nice to have at least a refrigerator in a town that has such wonderful food and beverage items. Being able to chill a bottle of wine or preserve... More

The hotel is old, it is in desperate need of updating. " Where are you Anthony Melchoiorri and Hotel Impossible?" The first thing I noticed was the strong moldy stench. The rooms are outdated with drab décor....what there is of it. The comforter was old and thin, and smelled of moth balls. The staff was rude and unaccommodating. We requested... More

Thank you for staying at the Guest House. After a busy weekend, Sunday is a busy clean-up day for our staff, thus a late checkout can and sometimes does cause problems for our cleaning staff - such as when your pre-approved half-hour-late checkout time was stretched to nearly a full hour with no response. I can only hope that for... More

We stayed on our return trip and found the staff to be easy to work with and accommodating. This is "old time" type motel with a "metal" key. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were excellent. Even though this is an older motel it was very clean...no mold or anything like that. No, you don't get a morning... More

We stopped over in Amana, IA and stayed at this hotel on August 28, 2013. This is a "Mom & Pop" type hotel. Good sized rooms, very clean, good internet, reasonable rates ($70 including tax) and very comfortable beds. Coffee every morning, but hotel has no breakfast. However, there are three very good reasonable priced restaurants in Amana that serve... More

Our first stay at the Guest House, and having read the reviews weren't sure what to expect. Staff was wonderfully helpful and friendly. The room (we were in #1) was larger than expected and we did have a table and two chairs. The toiletries are basic, soap and a shampoo, but don't we mostly bring our own anyway? Only complaints... I've stayed at the Guest House Motel twice now, and both times I have found to be a simple, yet satisfying stay while in the Amana Colonies. The location can't be beat -- just down the road from the Colony Inn (the best of the traditional Amana restaurants, in my opinion) and my other favorite place, Millstream Brewing Company. I... More

This is a basic motel in a fantastic location with terrific service. When I needed extra pillows "no problem!" When we needed better reception "no problem." The rooms are clean and functional. The location is absolutely charming. The service is old-school in the best way. They do need to do some dehumidifying in the first floor rooms in the Sandstone... More
