Ok so it is the dry side of Kauai and at the end of the road, but a mile of beach almost to yourself on Kauai? Definitely worth it. Great value, great facility, great sunsets! For the mandatory shave ice, you definitely want the JoJo's behind the Captain Cook statue in Waimea (there's two). We bought the food that wouldn't... More

I'm a little biased because I was part of the batallion that built the new cottages on PMRF. The older ones sit right on the beach and the new ones are simply across the street. My next visit to Hawaii is going to include three nights at least in these. It's the dry side of the island but while I... More

But seriously, for $85 a night it is well worth the drive out to the west end of Kauai. This is our 4th stay in the cottages and we love it. The older cabins need some upgrading, but then we stayed at a somewhat high end hotel in Ka'Anapali 2 years ago, without even a kitchenette, for over twice the... More

If you are looking for night life or a resort with all the amenities then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a gorgeous view in a relatively secluded area at the end of the road - this is it. There's a small NEX and a pretty nice restaurant. We loved it and hope to... More

Seriously- I just said that so those folks without access won't feel so bad. We stayed in Hale Akala, one of the older unrenovated cabins. Actually, it's the beachfront cabin that's furthest west on the beach. It was amazing. First, there's no way to beat the price on the deal...unless you're a long lost relative of the Robinson family, who's... More

This little gem is amazing! We weren't going to book it because some friends told us it was far from everything. First of all in Kauai nothing is far, number two you are far from the tourist traps but very close to the top sights on the island. The top three sights on trip advisor are all within 10 minutes.... My husband recommended this as our "base" for our 10-day honeymoon in Kauai. Our cottage was neat and tidy, simple but comfortable furnishings, a nicer TV than we own, and wireless access to the internet. We were assigned one of the ocean-view cottages, which meant that the living area was on stilts, leaving a nice covered place for us to... More

If you have access, this is the place to stay! Lot of room, very secluded. On the other side of the Island from the rat race. Small exchange, gas is 50cents lower than town and they have an excellent restaurant and bar down the street.

We spend quite a bit of time on Kauai as my parents live there. We always try to check out a new place to stay for a few days in a different area of the island each time we visit. (mainly so my husband can have a break from the in-laws). We are DOD civilians so thought we would give... More

We had the good fortune to stay at Hale Pueo (owl house) with great friends...the 4 of us Kauai residents from the "otta side" of the island. The cottage was super roomy, clean, well equipped (if a bit worn) but the main draw was the beach front lanai where we settled in daily. We watched the waves and passing tour... More
