When we first arrived we were pleasantly surprised with how large the cottages are. The bedrooms are spacious as are the common rooms. However, as soon as we entered the first bedroom there was a live scorpion on the floor. In every corner of every room there are roach tracks, and that kind of grosses me out. We battled with... First, see the review of this place by HawaiiKaiGail, dated May 31, 2015. She did an excellent job, and I'll just add to what she said. (That's an unsolicited testimonial.) We stayed here for a week in August. You should enjoy your stay here, if you choose to go to this place. The biggest hesitation I have is that if you... More

I had wanted to stay here for YEARS. We are now residents on Oahu so we took a week's vacation to Kauai...and this was our first thought when it came to lodging. We stayed 3 nights and could have stayed 3 weeks! This is what we found and some tips & info for your stay. Only open to active duty... More

Hey -- why are there so many roosters and no hens? Where are they hiding those ladies? We arrived at BS cottage at midnight. Our paperwork was at the gate as promised and check in was seamless. The cottage was roomy and clean. Everything we need is available, including a coffeemaker, hairdryer, and wifi. This is not the St. Regis,... More

We stayed in one of the Beach Front Cottages the end of September & first week in October. Great location, great accommodations. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Lot of privacy. Felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. If you have the opportunity to stay here make sure you have dinner at Shenanigans. Great food!! Will definitely... More

Cottage # 1128 was perfect! The cottage is located on the back-row but has a view of the ocean. This cottage is one of the newer cottages. There is AC in the bedroom, bathroom has does have a hairdryer, kitchen has all you need for cooking and also has a microwave but no dishwasher. Paper towels dish detergent and toilet... More

I have stayed at Barking Sands many times. Each time is wonderful. It is one of the many benefits of serving in the military. The cabins are roomie if a little dated. It is very peaceful. This is a perfect place if you want to get away from it all and just relax and unwind. If you want the nightlife... More

This is a a great place to stay! There isn't much meat on the islands and active duty is the one ones who can get the meat at the nex, but everything else was great! We stayed in one that hasn't been remodeled, and it could definitely use a pick-me-up. Perfect view, quiet but you can't swim on the beach... More

Barking Sands is on the west side of Kauai, far from the touristy areas, allowing for perfect peace & relaxation. Yes, the cottages are in need of an update, but our ocean front cottage was clean. (You are on the gorgeous island of Kauai, so how much time do you really want to spend indoors anyway?!) The view from the... More

Retirees are the last in line for bookings at Barking Sands, so we always feel lucky to get in. The cottages remind me of old time beach cottages on the coasts of the mainland.....sand, wet towels, mould in the shower. Casual living but with the best sunsets on the island and miles of unoccupied beach to explore. We like it... More
