How can I express my thanks to Raven and Mark for the best night of our lives? The outdoor bathroom with outdoor shower was lovely. You feel like you are living in the middle of the rainforest with the flowers and smells all around you. But then you walk 20 feet and you are on the desolation of the recent... More

If you like interesting and beautiful people in a place unlike any you have seen, choose Raven's paradise. Please be good to this woman who carefully attends to your every need, and soak up the spirit of this place. I suggest three to four nights there as your first stop from the Hilo airport. Mark can give great advice about... More

Many people come through our home and share this special paradise. But there are some who are memorable and fun enough to want to continue this newly found connection. We loved having you both here and sharing meals and ideas as well. And Yesm, I do love to pamper my guests and anticipate their every whim. We are planning some... More

My boyfriend and I were so fortunate to find the Ma'ukele Lodge near Kalapana on the Big Island. We stayed there for two weeks and felt very much welcomed and at home thanks to our hosts Raven and Mark. The lodge is in a quiet and beautiful setting with beautiful views of the ocean and a newly formed lava/black sand... More

The two weeks went by so quickly, but within the spans of time, I feel we have become great friends. You were like family to us, and we look forward to seeing you again soon. It was my pleasure to add the details that would make your lives and time here in Paradise that much more special and memorable. The... More

I would just have one word to say: "WOW"! This place is so amazing, my only dream is to go back there. Let's start by the place: Ma'ukele Lodge is a lovely wooden blue house in the middle of cocounut trees and all kinds of exotic plants. The house is right next to the ocean, you just have to cross... I have read your review through many times, as it reminds me that all the details that I would wish for myself in an Inn or hotel, are not lost on guests such as yourself. I live in one of the most beautiful and exotic places in the world. This sharing of my home and the beauty, reminds all of... More

My husband and I stayed two nights at this beautiful, eclectic home. We were lucky enough to arrive on Wednesday to enjoy the Kalapana farmers market at Uncle Roberts - a MUST DO! The tree frogs sang us to sleep at night, and Raven created a great atmosphere with thoughtful touches of flowers and chocolates on the bed in the... More

We spent two nights at Ma'ukele Lodge September, 2013. Words cannot express the beauty of this tropical paradise on the lava rock shoreline. This is matched only by the graciousness and friendliness of Raven and Mark. The tree frogs sing as breezes blow and rain falls on the lush plants outside your window, serenading you to sleep at night. You... More

Our family of 4 stayed here in mid July for 4 nights. This unique place right off the road but tucked away so it is very quiet. We stayed in the lower level which has a queen bed and a King bed. The one unique part of the place was the outside bathroom and shower. It was a little different... More

We had the wonderful experience of staying with Raven and Mark on April 19th and 20th, 2013. The grounds and view are second to none! The house is nestled in a jungle of beautiful ferns, palm trees and flowers. You will see, hear and smell God's beautiful creation at this B and B. We stayed in the private Hawaiian suite... More

Inn Kaimu/Makuele Lodge is simply paradise. We stayed in the Hawaiian Suite, beautifully and eclectically furnished, with an extremely comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was very private, especially the shower in the garden. Innkeeper Raven Slaughter is a gracious and accommodating host. Her gardens are simply beautiful, and she's an excellent cook. The garden opens to a walkway down to... More

We stayed here with two teenage girls, and everybody loved it. The house is simple, bohemian, and perfect. There is a nice deck overlooking the backyard and ocean. The backyard leads to a lava ledge over crashing surf onto a black sand beach. There is a fire pit and bench out back to enjoy as well. Raven is a warm... More
