I met nice people staying here but with only five rooms this isn't guaranteed, of course. The trust drinks system is a nice touch and the hammocks are lovely. The (Dutch) owners are working hard to make this a good hostel. Mostly, they're doing a good job. The place is clean, quiet and well located. Reserving a room is a... More

I stayed here for 10 days in one of the doubles with a shared bathroom. No matter what, but especially considering what you're paying, these rooms are a great deal! Incredibly clean kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms, and very large, spacious, well decorated bedrooms. There are hundreds of great movies available to watch, a good wifi connection, and a well-equipped kitchen.... More

Don't know anything about other options in the area. Stayed two nights. Owner is very nice. Room was clean. Hot water to shower and sink was great -- she has an on-demand gas water heater right there putting out the heat. Owner seems to always be working on improvements. Security is very good with the gates and locks on the... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay here. This is absolutely the cleanest place we've stayed in Guatemala and it made our experience that much better. The rooms are lovely, huge and tastefully furnished; the kitchen VERY well equipped (I think I even saw a waffle iron!), the patios inviting and the shared bathrooms/showers easy to access. Very easy/short walk to the... More

Incredibly spacious, clean and elegant rooms, movie/common room, full kitchen with pantry space, outdoor patio and book exchange. Casa Renaissance is an amazing guesthouse where you can relax from your day's adventures. We stayed for a total of 9 days in an enormous room with two queen-sized beds. It does get cold at night, though there were plenty of blankets... More

We went to Xela to see another aspect of Guatemala away from the main tourist trail, and to visit the local Highlands. Staying at Casa Renaissance helped achieve both these. It's really close (one block) to the Central Park with a variety of restaurants and non-touristy things to see. Marieke, the owner, helped book us on a trip to the... More

I originally chose this place based on online and printed recommendations. You don't need to read far to see that many others suffer uncomfortable nights all around the city at different establishments - but not this one. I stayed here for three comfortable nights in two different rooms (I left for a night on Tajumulco with QTs and then came... More

Having spent a very uncomfortable night (in all senses) in another budget hotel in Xela I turned up on the doorstep of Casa Renaissance and was fortunate to find a spare room. There are only 5 rooms here - but what rooms! They are enormous and comfortable, good beds, comfy armchair, table and chairs and TV. There is an attractive... More
