It felt like a 2 star hotel, but in a 5 star location. We stayed 1 night in lodge "Golfo" on a 28 day tour of Central America. It's a short boat trip to the Island. There's a large , open plan reception. Check in was efficient. Most of the cabins are on stilts around the edge of the island.... More

We stayed here for one night while on a Tucan Tour. The location at first glance is wonderful with some of the cabins on the water and others tucked into the trees along the landscaped walkways and around the marinas. Our cabin was next to two boat slips. It had 3 beds, a couple of chairs, a deck out the... More

You reach the island on Sledge Hammer from the other side of the river, near the bridge. The island is small, well landscaped and intimate. The accommodation is in bungalows over the river, good location, clean but the rooms are very basic. Hot water was turned off on my arrival, but later restored. Toilet is partitioned area in one corner... More

I stayed at the Catamaran Island Hotel in late March 2015 for 1 night, at the end of a long day travelling from Honduras to then visit the unusual archaeological site of Quiriguá (before a return-trip along the Río Dulce to Livingston the following day) on the ninth stage of my 18-day 'Mysteries of the Maya' holiday operated by Voyages... Travelled to the hotel on a boat, as that is the only way to get there, which was fun. The rooms are wooden huts, some of them over the water of the river. The rooms had everything we needed, a comfortable bed and bathroom ( ok a shower room ). There is also a swimming pool. To buy a drink... More

It was fun taking the boat, "Sledge Hammer", to the hotel. Rooms are in wooden huts, some reached by wooden jetties. The huts are very basic and a little like a summer camp/holiday camp experience (think Dirty Dancing!). Having said that, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. Plenty of hot water in out bright pink... More

A Guatemalan attempt at a Maldives resort. Wooden cabins on piles over the edge of the river, and crystal clear waters they are not! However, the rooms were spotlessly clean, beds comfortable and loads of good pressure hot water. the pool is a little disappointing... 18" to 4ft deep but pleasantly refreshing. Food was OK, alcohol cheap despite having to... More

We reached the cabins from Rio Dulce town by boat. They are inaccessible by car. The cabins were quaint, quiet and offer a relaxed stay. The food is good and the cocktails are amazing. A trip to livingstone by boat is a minimum of a 90 minute trip and parts of the river can be pretty rough. Stop off at... More

The place has a great location, you have to cross the river in a boat if you from the city, but if you call The Catamaran they will arrange their boat "Sledge Hammer" to pick you up. The rooms are a bit old but comfortable. Some people complain about the hot water, but you just have to let the water... More

This place is actually a fair boat ride away from Livingston. Its location on the Rio Dulce is very nice. The facilities themselves, however, leave a lot to be desired. Our cabin was reminiscent of a summer camp cabin. We felt as though we were "roughing it". Fortunately, the beds were reasonably comfortable. The bathroom was very tiny and it... More
