I would only stay here one night, on the way to somewhere else. The hotel is in a beautiful old building, but could do with a renovation. The location is not so good ( everyone will tell you to be careful if thieves) but there is a police headquarters around the corner and an armed guard at the pharmacy next... More

The hotel is old and shabby. The bed spreads needed replacing years ago. linens to thin. Blankets old. Feng shway uncomfortable. too much clutter and poor placement of furnishings. Bathroom clean, no pressure in sink took for ever for toilet basin to fill, good shower. Front desk was very helpfull with directions, calling for taxi's etc. I would not stay... More

I struggled with this review, because we saw 2 other hotels around the area, and this one was the best one...it was late at night, and we weren't interested in walking around anymore. So it's better than what we saw.... but it's definitely not better than what is in Antigua. I wouldn't call this place expensive by any means, but... More

This place probably had its heyday a few decades back. Today, it is dark, a bit run-down, and like a haunted mansion at night. The workers were very attentive and had good service, but the facilities... there are water and coffee pitchers out in the halls, so that was nice. There are 3 types of rooms (shower & TV, shower... I spent one night here. Although the building had a quaint charm, my room was oppressively dark and lacked hot water. The service seemed virtually nonexistent. It did include access to a single older computer with Internet. I arrived on a Sunday and took the Trans-Metro to the older part of the city and from there, I went by foot... More

Guatemala City downtown has many interesting places but if you read most travel guides you might become afraid and think there is nothing here. I am not discounting the crime problems and if you decide to stay here, I do suggest that you don't walk around after dark. The front desk will call a taxi driver they know. The hotel... More

My father and I stayed at the Hotel Colonial for 5 nights back in July of 2006. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff is friendly. The location is very central, right in the heart of Zona 1, close to restaurants and the Mercado Central. The hotel also has parking. My only complaint would be that... More
