I recently went to visit my home country of Guatemala (I was born in the US, folks are from there) and took my fiance on this 15 day glorious trip. We had an opportunity to travel throughout the country of Guatemala and got to experience some amazing things. One of our stops was to visit Chichicastenanago. I have been there... more

Our night here was booked by our tour operator. The hotel and its patios are gorgeous - colonial architecture, decorated with countless antique masks, crucifixes, ceramics, etc. The room was quite spacious - actually 2 rooms. But the lighting was provided by halogens which were too small for the space; water streamed under the shower door onto the bathroom floor,... more

This is probably the best hotel in town, certainly it seems popular with tour groups. The hotel is set around a courtyard and is furnished with lots of old antiques. The rooms are clean and quite basic, ours was a little dark and wasnt helped by the green tinted lamp shades. The main problem was it was cold! We were... more

Hotel Santo tomas was a pearl in the guatemala's chaos and poverty scenery of our visit to Guatemala last April. the hotel is absolut beutiful with it's corridors, garden and flowers everywhere. the service is great with the old lady owner who's orchestrate everything firmly yet pleasently. the only bad thing is the food which is actually horrible. but if... more

My husband and I disagree on the quality of this hotel. Given that it is in a small remote and poor town I though the hotel provided the basic services needed in a nice and pleasant setting. I liked the gardens, the decorations, the rooms and the food. My husband thought the hotel had several problems: small bathroom, little pressure... more

The nicest hotel in town. Good food and lovely old monastery turned into a very nice hotel. The owner was attentive as was her staff and they sold nice things in their gift shop at resonable prices. Arrive on Saturday and explore the market on Sunday. One night was perfect for us. Explore the market, church and cemetery. more

We had been on the road for hours on a Saturday because we wanted to check out the Chichicastenango Sunday market. We came here for dinner and stayed the night! Overall it was a good value for a comfortable room with unique decor. The hotel is chock full of art work in the halls, the courtyards, and even the rooms... more

We arrived in Chicicastenango with no hotel reservations. First, we went to the Mayan Inn and they wanted $100 a night for a room with twin beds. We walked around and found the Santo Tomas Hotel and booked a night with a king bed for $85. For the area I think it was a bit of a rip off -... more

The Santo Tomas is a rambling structure that one can easily get lost in at first, but it doesn't matter. There is so much great folk art and gorgeous antiques to see along the way! It's a great way to educate your eye before purchasing masks, santos and other carvings and the displays show a great variety. The hotel itself... more

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Santo Tomas in July, 2006, for two nights, Wednesday and Thursday, visiting the market on Thursday. The hotel is ideally located, about three blocks from the main market square. Rooms 31 through 37 are the quietest, upstairs and at the back, with great views of the surrounding countryside. The open-air hallways are... more
