Incredible location along one mile wide lagoon. We had the lagoon front room for 4 nights. Enjoyed regular trips and special trips. Liked the breakfast along the river. Incredible sights of fishes and birds including 5 foot tall Mother and Daddy Jabiru Stork with their 2 young babies on the nest. Ruins tour was great. Captured highlights on video. Liked... more

Our family (kids 7 & 10) just returned from a wonderful and relaxing 4 day stay (combined with a 4 day trip to Placencia). I was a little concerned about the food based on other reviews, but the food was very good. Everyone on the staff was excellent, friendly and went out of their way to show us a wonderful... more

I recently returned from a stay at Lamanai Lodge with my wife and 9 YO son. On our second night both my son and I became ill, serious GI disturbance, constant vomitting and diarrhea for 24 hours straight in my case. Our son's doctor had sent us with antibiotics, we got them in him fast and his condition did not... more

Like all, we made our reservations through Ellen and she explained to me that she and her husband built the place. I think her son-in-law runs it now. The pick-up at the airport was great as was the trip up the New River. The room was very nice and comfortable. It had a ceiling fan. I am very heat intolerant... more

Lamanai Outpost is an awesome experience for anyone wanting to get far away and into the jungle, anyone interested in Maya ruins, birding, conservation, etc. We went mostly for the nature walks and birding, and were lucky to be shown around by Carlos and George. Carlos is a superlative ornithologist, able to identify all species by sound alone and if... more

I was so disappointed by Lamani. I had sent advance notification that I was a vegetarian and then notified the cook when we arrived and then many times the only selections for dinner/ lunch included meat. On one trip (river at dawn) I even notified the front desk that I do not eat meat, and what do you know, the... more

A wonderful place. A word of caution to unmatched canoers. Ask the guides to ride separately with you. Nothing can destroy a relationship as easily as not being able to paddle in a coordinated way. more

This was everything we hoped for and more! The food was delicious (Thanks Liz!), much better than we expected based on reviews we read. The staff was personable (Thanks Cesar) and knowledgable (Thanks Gilberto and "Gregory Peck"). We especially wanted to visit the Mayan ruins and this adventure was all that we hoped for. We also recommend the Spotlight Safari... more

Travel in by river boat up the New River Lagoon (where the made for TV version of Apacolypse Now was shot); rum punch upon arrival; a room with modern amenities at the foot of jungle setting. The night nature tours will inform and amaze, the sunset cocktail cruise was stunning, and the tour of the Lamanai ruins (with Ruben and... more

Lamanai Outpost was a perfect start to our family's (girls ages 13 and 9) 2-week visit to Belize. The airport pickup was a great and painless welcome to the country, and the 1-hour boat trip up the New River to Lamanai was the best possible way to unwind into vacation mode (and the rum punch -- no rum for the... more
