We only visited the resort for lunch after going to the nearby botanic gardens, but we were given a very warm welcome and had a delicious lunch in the restaurant that's up in the tree canopy. I had a vegetarian quesadilla - very tasty - and apparently the meat-based meal was great too.

We stayed for 8 nights here and it was AMAZING! The service and friendliness of the staff made us feel very welcome. The food was great and serving staff was on it. Yessi and Mason who work at the dining bar were so kind and attentive. They always had warm hellos, helpful tips, and made us feel special. They would remember our names and the excursions we went on which made our day. They even lent us a birdwatching book for one of our tours. Derby at the pool bar, made amazing drinks and added to the fun conversation at the bar with other guests. He would even pour our drinks in a different glass so we could stick them in our pool float. Just very thoughtful all the way around. Also, the people who took us on excursions were very cool and knowledgeable. Every excursion felt more enriched by the personal touch of the guides. They would make us laugh all day. This place is 5 star quality. We normally don’t travel back places but we plan to come back here.

We just spent five magical days at Sweet Songs, an eco-lodge that blends intimate encounters with the wild space of the El Cayo district, and its rich contemporary culture, rooted in the ancient Maya world. The lodge itself is "posh rustic"-- beautifully designed to make the best of its site on a jungle bluff overlooking the Macal River. Casitas/rooms/treehouses are scattered around the grounds: private, spacious, air conditioned and well-maintained. But there's no ostentation here; instead it's a lovingly curated encounter with the jungle flora and fauna. Just walking around the property we saw( at various distances) over 25 new species of birds (including keel-billed toucan, collared aracari, masked tityra, amazonian kingfishers, summer tanagers, red-throated ant tanagers, chacalacas). Other sightings included howler monkeys, acoutis, iguanas and kikachus. The SweetSong staff is extraordinary (hello Rita, Derby, Niar and others!), sharing their culture and knowledge even as they mixed drinks and brought breakfast. The food was excellent and varied, should you choose to dine on site, and the camaraderie that developed among guests over dinner was an unexpected pleasure. But the best for last: Sweet Songs partners with a number of local guides and experts to arrange significant and--sometimes--profound engagements with the ancient and contemporaryMayan and natural world. Our guide Leo, from Belize Cave Adventures, introduced us to the astounding Caracol Mayan site, where he had actually worked on a major archeological dig. (He also showed us one of the most beautiful "wild swimming" pools on the planet to refresh us after our day in the sun.) Another guide, Selvyn, helped us paddle from the lodge into San Ignacio on the pristine Macal River, sharing his knowledge of birds, animals , and ecology along the way. As a bonus, the lodge arranged for us to make chocolate at Ajaw, using traditional Mayan techniques. And Andy got us out in the early morning, helping us to spot more than a score of birds. This place truly is "Muy'Ono"!

The reviews don’t lie — this is a remote hotel deep in the jungle with absolutely nothing around except nature. It reminded me of a yoga retreat resort. It was exactly what we wanted — until the kids killed it. This resort needs to be adults only. Not only for guests wanting and expecting a relaxing, peaceful stay, but for the kids, too, because there is nothing for them to do. There is no escaping them, either, such as an adults only area/pool. We couldn’t enjoy the birds at breakfast because a toddler was walking around screaming excitedly every time she saw a bird, scaring them away. We couldn’t enjoy the peacefulness and nature sounds from our screened-in porch because said toddler was having a meltdown three doors down in their screened-in porch. Another family’s kids dominated the pool with horseplay and laughs/screams, ruining the relaxation vibe — we couldn’t finish our drinks and get out of there fast enough. The entire stay was a huge letdown. The room itself was comfortable, the A/C was cold, the food was good, the staff was amazing, and the property was beautiful. The narrow road to the hotel is 4 miles of hell on the rental car with potholes, rocks, ropes doubling as speed bumps, and dust — our top speed in the Kia Soul was 15 mph. And that was in daylight with beautiful weather — I would not want to make that trek in the dark or in rain. Sweet Songs is great, but it could be amazing if it were adults only.

We had our honeymoon here a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. The staff decorated our bed and left us a bottle of wine :) so sweet. We were a bit hesitant after some mixed reviews, but it was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. I think it really depends on your room type. We stayed in a king casita our first night (that had a full kitchen we were not aware of )- it was a bit dated but I thought the rustic look was quite charming. It was clean and the a/c worked great. We did lodgers choices so had a room change, staff moved our luggage easily and not a problem at all. Our last 3 nights we were in the standard treehouse, which was really cool. It was more updated and had a hammock up in the trees where you could lay and hang out. One thing they could fix- At times we could smell some septic in the washroom of the treehouse very minor, but not a big deal as we shut the door and left the bathroom window open and that helped a lot. It never smelled in our room area. There were other premium fancy treehouses that we wanted, but they were booked already. The pool area/bar is so beautiful. The water was a little chilly in the pool though. Happy hour was fun everyday 3-6 pm- free snacks and 2 for 1 drinks that we enjoyed! On our last day we got SO lucky and saw two families of howler monkeys!!! We got to watch them for over an hour hang out by our tree house and the pool area (with 2 little babies). We also chatted with the security one night and he showed us scorpions and tons of tarantulas! Super nice guy. The road to get there are very bumpy for a good 10-15 min, but it is worth it. We made out fine with our 2 wheel drive SUV. Food- absolutely delicious. We had breakfast there every morning, and dinner there twice. Views are breathtaking from the restaurant. The lamb was the best we have ever had, shrimp pasta was also good. We do wish there was more choices for dinner as it is one set menu a night (you pick the meat), however it turned out really yummy and farm to table. We also learned instead of the 3 course dinner meal, we ordered just the mains every night because we aren't big eaters. We had a rental car and ate in town a few days. Loved our stay and wish we had more time to sit back and relax. All of the staff were sooo friendly!

We stayed at Sweet Songs as the first half of our Sea to Tree package through Muy Ono resorts. We were picked up at the airport and the ride was about 2 hrs. It was nice to see the countryside and learn about Belize from our driver. The first night we stayed in Casita #2. It was simple but charming. The next two nights we stayed in treehouse 19, signature. This was an experience in of itself. We loved the set up, the shower, the tub and the netting. Taking a bath on the deck with the birds and jungle noises was so relaxing! The grounds of the resort are very pretty and well taken care of. We walked on the Macal trail and tubed down the river. Pool was refreshing and most times we were the only ones there or with one other couple. Enrique did a great job slinging drinks daily at the pool bar and there was usually a snack late afternoon. We did the inclusive package and it was worth it. Food was very good, many options and vegetarian friendly. Drinks were fabulous! Staff at the restaurant were so friendly and attentive (Nayir and Yasena - unsure of spelling). We did not leave the lodge except to walk to the botanical gardens. There is plenty of relaxation and enjoyment to be had here. We loved the wildlife and calm nature of the entire lodge. Signature treehouse is worth the price! I initially was hesitant to book Sweet Songs as I’m a beach person but this may have been my favorite part of the trip!

Our first trip to Belize and we were lucky to get the last 2 rooms at Sweet Songs. We stayed in cabanas which were very comfortable but would love to go back ands stay in a treehouse. Grounds are amazing with lots of birds and animals to watch. The Howler monkeys really put on a show! We did the all-inclusive package and found the food and drinks delicious. The favorite part of our stay was the staff. Everyone was warm, friendly and knowledgeable.

We spent 11 nights at Sweet Songs late January into early February 2024. For us, this place provided a vacation of our dreams. We stayed in room number 17, which is a treehouse right next to the Macal River with a wraparound porch and outdoor bathtub set in thick jungle foliage. We used a bird detection app on our phone and heard many species right from our treehouse! There were 90 steps, no railings, to get from our room to the bar/restaurant so we really built up our leg and butt muscles during our stay! We had the all-inclusive package which bundled dining, bar drinks, and lodging which made our stay truly stress free. The food was fresh and well prepared; so many food & drink choices. All staff we encountered were exemplary. I would call this place satisfyingly rustic; it is not luxurious but more like “glamping” with the huge addition of staff to take care of all your needs and grounds that are so beautifully maintained. The water/plumbing is primitive by USA standards but this is Belize. Drinking water is provided. Bring your own blow dryer. No coffee or refrigerator in our treehouse but make your way to the restaurant and you’ll find excellent coffee and at least 12 tea choices! A tea drinkers paradise. Our treehouse had the most beautifully crafted wood floors, king size bed and bathroom vanity plus a gorgeous wood sliding door separating bedroom and bathroom. The whole treehouse is screened in and sliding doors create an enclosed bedroom. We only closed the doors 2 days when it was steamy hot and we had the air conditioning on. We came here to get an immersive jungle experience and the combination of Sweet Songs beautiful grounds right next to Belize Botanical gardens, brought that all together. We paid the $7.50-person for the gardens almost every day we didn’t go on an excursion because we saw so many birds and butterflies there as well as monkeys. The more time we spent there, the more we saw. The pool was really refreshing (about 80*F) especially when we had those hot and steamy days. This lodge offers a lot of excursions; we went on a guided canoe trip to town (about 3 hours on the water), we went birding on the grounds with a guide, hiking at the Big Rock Falls, a visit to the Green Iguana project and into San Ignacio to the market. Many people we met were staying 3-4 days in the jungle and then going to the coast. We chose to stay the whole vacation in the jungle and at Sweet Songs to maximize our jungle experience and we are so glad we did. We saw the big Keel Bill Toucans numerous times, the family of Howler Monkeys that spends time around Sweet Songs and all of the extraordinary foliage not to mention all of the funky mammals and other beautiful birds. If we went back to Belize jungle, we would certainly Sweet Songs due to the immensely satisfying hospitality they offer.

Spent 3 nights at Sweet Songs- what a beautiful place. So relaxing! We loved the entire property- felt like our hotel room was a cabin in the middle of the jungle. Rooms was huge- loved the shower that had a screen window that looked into the jungle. Loved the front porch- great place to relax in at the end of the day. We did the all-inclusive which is almost a must- as there is nothing close by at all. This place is very secluded. Drinks were great- food was great. Loved seeing the birds in the morning and hearing the "sweet songs" of the birds when strolling the property. The pool area has a bar and a beautiful jungle background. The river/beach is quiet and serene. I highly recommend doing a hike through the Botanical Gardens which is right behind the resort. Nice walk and we saw/heard the Howler Monkeys. Highlight was seeing the beautiful birds in the morning, and the Kinkajou's that came out every evening. Staff were amazing- kind/friendly/helpful. Highly recommend. We spent 4 days at Ambegris Caye afterwards so was great to experience the rain forest before we headed to the beach. Thank you to all the wonderful staff!

I recently hosted a retreat at Sweet Songs focused on stress management and wellness through sound healing, meditation, and nervous system regulation. Sweet Songs could not have been a better place to rest and restore. The staff at Sweet Songs catered to our every request and had everything we needed set up without asking, including yoga mats by the pool, bonfires by the beach, and our tables for meals. After day 1 they already knew all of our names and had our smoothies ready for us at breakfast! We had somethings scheduled last minute which they helped accomodate, and we were able to eat "off campus" in town after the mayan Ruins where they hosted us at a local restaurant for a delicious lunch. Attendees were picked up on time from the airport with no issue. Additionally, Michelle was so responsive and had an answer to every question I had while planning my retreat, and offered up suggestions on additional activities we could include. I love Muy Ono and this is my fourth time staying with them in Belize, and I will be back for number 5 at Thatch Caye in June 2024. being the retreat leader can be stressful and comes with a lot of responsibility, but Muy Ono made this super easy.
