I just returned from a 2 week Mother/Daughter trip to Belize, of which 8 of those days were spent in the Jungle at Duplooy's. We chose this vacation because of the positive reviews, the remoteness of the jungle, and the offering of many outdoor activities that we wanted to participate in; such as the trips to the Mayan ruins, Cave... I just spent a week at duPlooy's with my family of 18, and we had such a great time here. Judy and the entire staff are warm and welcoming, the food is insanely delicious (thank you John!), and the actual lodge is beautiful, clean, and offers so many opportunities to explore nearby areas. We took walks through the botanical gardens,... More

I chose this location as the final three days of a ten day vacation in Belize. I chose it because of the botanical gardens, and my wife being an avid gardener. We were greeted at the dock upon landing from our seven day live aboard dive trip, and enjoyed a wonderful drive to duPlooy's with a very knowledgeable driver. Upon... More

We spent a week at duPlooys and it was terrific. Bottomline: you are in the rainforest, but you're not really roughing it, several Mayan ruins are nearby,as well as, caves for exploring/adventure and the Macal river for tubing, canoeing, cooling off. It's a birder's heaven with plenty of other wildlife around. We love bats and owls, and saw both. It... More

Wow!! Thanks for such a great review. Since we have the Goldilocks syndrome here - "the bed's too hard, the bed's too soft" - we are putting removable pillowtops on the beds and if someone wants a harder bed, off goes the pillowtop. I'm glad I could solve your problem with the massage and it was a good lesson with... More

duPlooy's is a lovely jungle retreat with friendly , helpful staff, clean rooms and great food. You'll enjoy the lively kinkajous that come to the bar patio at night and eat bananas out of your hand, floating down the lazy river that runs alongside the resort and strolling through the expansive, beautiful Botanical Gardens on the grounds. The staff does... More

Hello, Thanks so much for your review of duPlooy's. The reason that we don't have refrigerators in our rooms (except for gas fridges in the studio apartment units (2) that are for sale) is because, with solar power, electricity is limited; however, we are always glad to provide ice and a cooler for people who feel the need. The guanacaste... More

A delightful lodge set in a lush jungle setting overlooking the river was a nice start to our trip. Our plan included all meals and 3 full day adventures of our choice. The staff was friendly and helpful, we were attended to with great attention. We had Phillip Mai for our pick up and were able to visit on the... More

Hello, Thanks for your review of duPlooy's. The little guys who come to eat bananas in the evenings are kinkajous. Even though they are around, you usually don't see too many animals on night walks, rather tarantulas, bats, maybe an owl and during July and August, myriads of fireflies. But, you are right, it's fun to just prowl around and... More

From check-in to check-out, we were delighted with the friendly, helpful staff, the clean rooms (Tree House is lovely!) and the beautiful setting. Definitely check out the adjacent Botanic Garden, which the owner of the Lodge started. If you don't stay at duPlooy's, go to the Garden anyway! Lack of AC is not a drawback, there are virtually no bugs,... More

Remember going to camp when you were a kid? Well if you want to relive that type of an experience, duPlooy's might be the answer. The one thing that won't happen while you're there is that you won't be bored. Want to go birding? Check. Want to climb Mayan ruins? Check. Want to meander down a river? Check. As for... More

Hello, I guess it is kind of like summer camp here - except that, as I remember, the food wasn't very good, at least at the camp I went to!!! At this time of year, I agree, the jungle is very loud with cicadas screaming in your ears, but you gotta give these guys a break as they only live... More

Our family of 4 - myself, husband, 17 yr old son and 16 yr old daughter recently stayed for 3 overnights at Du Plooys (before heading to Ambergris Caye) We stayed in the Casita which was a stand-alone, 2 story dwelling. There was more than enough sleeping space for us and 2 large full baths. The unit was very clean... More

Thanks for bringing your family to duPlooy's and thanks for your review. I agree that flying at least one way is worth the extra price (Add your flight to Belize City to our Create your own package for $50 per person) as it gives you more time to enjoy the grounds here if you take the mid-day flight or an... I am so happy that we got advice to stay at DuPlooy's from some bird-watching friends of ours. We are a family of 5, with two teenages (16, 14), and an 8 year old. The setting of the lodge is incredible, very secluded, yet very comfortable and "cozy" at the same time. It felt like a tropical paradise to us.... More
