This is not the place to stay if you expect formulaic 5 star resort accommodations - but if you do, I have to ask what are you doing in Santa Elena? These are charming, genuine, down to earth people who work as a near family unit to provide interesting and satisfying cuisine, and a serene relaxing environment to serve as... more

We recently stayed at Maya Mountain Lodge and the two best things about the lodge are the staff and the food. We were really impressed by the staff and their willingness to help us work out the right itinerary for us. The food is really good, and there is plenty of it. The accommodations are pretty average, although I think... more

My stay at Maya Mountain Lodge was phenomenal. My boyfriend and I stayed for a long weekend Thurs - Mon, and it was our first time in Belize. We did virtually no planning in terms of activities. We emailed Bart (the owner) prior to our visit describing a few things we would like to do, and he promptly replied with... more

We were at Maya mountain for three nights in early April and stayed in a small room in the Parrot Perch. The room was just as described with few amenities, but there was room for the bed and private bath. It was clean, bug free, and had a working A/C. There are few lights though. The water pressure leaves much... more

Best of the Best. We often travel 100K-300K miles a year. Absolutely nothing could be improved upon. Why they are not rated #1 escapes me. All comments on food are correct. The owner is the most hospitable man I have ever met. If you book tours through him you will get the best guides. I know a lot about the... more

I highly recommend Maya Mountain Lodge for a comfortable jungle experiance. I recommend the package deals that include roundtrip transport from the airport and tours to Tikal and Actun Tunichil Muknal (cave of the crystal maiden). Meals at the lodge are unique and excellent. The staff and locals are very friendly and helpful. Biting insects were not an issue during... more

We would just like to echo earlier positive reviews for the Maya Mountain Lodge. Without going into detail, we spent 6 nights here and went on 4 tours ...as well as the usual Tikal, we ventured to Caracol , the Barton Creek caves ( the canoe was fun and easy) Rio On pools, Rio Frio Cave, Xunanutich and the Pottery... more

Our family of 5 stayed at MML for 5 days during spring break (3/21-3/26). I had read the reviews and was forewared about the rustic nature of the facilities. Once again, my fellow Tripadvisors were very reliable and accurate in their description of the accommodations. The rooms are clean, if small and rustic. There is one very dim fluorescent bulb... more

From the moment we stepped off the plane everything was taken care of for us. We were greeted at the airport by not just a driver but a fabulous guide, who took us to lunch at a spot in Belize City with great local fare. Our drive to the lodge was smooth and scenic and flew by. My husband and... more

Our stay at Maya Mountain Lodge was lovely - I found it on tripadvisor and booked through Expedia along with our flights. The room rate listed on the back of the door was $119 per night plus the usual hefty Belizean taxes, for our very pretty cabana (thatched roof, porch with hammock, double bed and twin bed, terracotta-tiled floors, and... more
