We passed by the lower Dover, when travelling from San Ignacio to Belmopan. We decided to go there for lunch, but the property was closed because of archeological research. Nevertheless Madeleine invited us in and gave us a tour on her amazing property! It is hard to describe it. Really one should see it for yourself. There is so much... More

My dad and I had a great time and were graciously welcomed! Lower Dover is a beautiful place to swim in the river and explore the unexcavated ruins. Madeline was a great tour guide, cook, and friend! Bunkhouses were clean and comfortable and the place was nicely maintained. Definitely will have to visit again.

This was an amazing place, I ran in the stream, and spent time alone walking through an onsite Mayan ruin. Most of the dogs were cool, but one was clearly a coward. The family runs it well and has great tips on obtaining goods and services in a country who’s charm is being out of the loop. They have a... More

I should mention that I'm a UW-Madison Alum, and since the owners (and their son) went there, I may be a bit biased...nevertheless I LOVED my stay at Lower Dover. While the walk from the highway where the bus left me was a bit long, it was worth it to be so joyfully greeted by both Madeline and their pack... More

We traveled to Belize and met up with our daughter for vacation. Our daughter has several food issues which require a special diet. Madeline did a superb job of accommodating her needs through wonderfully, delicious meals. We were so grateful for all of the care Madeline took. I know it was extra work for everyone but my daughter remained healthy... More

A highlight of our trip. Madeline and her family were so welcoming and knowledgeable. The land is filled with buried Mayan ruins so you get comfortable lodging, good food, and access to ancient history. Not to mention this place has Badger gear (GO BIG RED) all over the place. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed here for four nights while touring the country and couldn't have been happier. Madeline and her family are extremely knowledgeable and phenomenally helpful! You're not just getting a place to stay, but excellent advice and beautiful grounds as well. The food, swimming hole, cabana, and fellow guests were fantastic -- we will definitely stay here next time we're... More

Lower Dover was an amazing place to stay for my friends and I. Nestled in the jungle, right off the Western Highway, the place has a nice hostel-like bedroom, a few roomy cabanas for couples or solo travelers, and a couple for friends or families. We stayed in the latter, and had great sleep and privacy. The grounds and layout... More

Lower Dover is a charming place--from the friendly and most helpful host Madeline to the fantastic accommodations. I was staying in hostel dorms during my travels through Central America and the dorms at LD are above par: roomy, comfortable, clean, and colorful. Breakfasts and dinners are well worth signing up for--no where else did I get to eat three courses... More

We enjoyed our time at Lower Dover very much! Madeline cared amiable for us and our wishes - she has solutions for everything and for every idea of adventure we wanted to do. However, the property is so big and interesting, you do not eaven have to leave for a tour: Best is the refreshing natural swimming pool right behind... More
