We enjoyed our time at Lower Dover very much! Madeline cared amiable for us and our wishes - she has solutions for everything and for every idea of adventure we wanted to do. However, the property is so big and interesting, you do not eaven have to leave for a tour: Best is the refreshing natural swimming pool right behind... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Lower Dover. Perfectly situated between Belmopan and San Ignacio - only a two hour commute by bus (4.50 US). We made it just in time for sunset and Madeline's family style dinner. During our three day stay we met numerous other guests who offered lively conversation and valuable travel advice. Madeline paired us with Elias... More

Let me start by saying that my husband and I tend toward lazier vacations, but when traveling to Belize we knew there'd be a lot of things we'd want to see and do. Yet we had no idea how much there'd be to see and do right at Lower Dover: ...from exploring the ruins right on-site to sharing delicious (delicious!)... More

Decided on Lower Dover Field Station as an alternative to the San Ignacio hotels and was SO HAPPY TO STAY HERE. Call or book online to make a reservation as space is limited, and take the public bus and ask to be dropped off at Mile 59 on the Western Highway (between Belmopan and San Ignacio). It is a small... Lower Dover Field Station is a wonderful stay in Unitedville! I don't have much more to add from other reviews except I recommend to bring a headlight or small flash light to get around at night & to stay atleast 4 nights...you won't regret it! So much to see and do in the area or just relax by the river.... More

Eight of us (4 50 somethings, 4 college students) spent 4 days here over Christmas 2013. What a terrific way to start our vacation in Belize. The host family is warm and welcoming, the food is great and it was fun to eat with the other visitors in a family-style setting. We enjoyed our tour of the station with Justin,... More

We had a wonderful time during our 3-night stay at Lower Dover in January. The cabanas feel very private and the outdoor shower was a fun experience. We really enjoyed the family-style meals, which gave us a chance to chat with other travelers and our hosts and make plans for the following day. Madeline and Justin were kind enough to... More

Stayed here over Christmas 2013, for 3 nights. Was planning for two, but we couldn't drag ourselves away and stayed the third. First, what the hotel is not. It is not a luxury lodge, with pampering amenities, and solicitous hovering help. It is what it says- a field station in the jungle. Basics: The rooms are comfortable, cozily appointed. As... More

As if lodging on site of an ancient Mayan ruin we're not enough, there are ultra cute and comfy accommodations, healthy tasty meals provided, welcoming super friendly Maddy and her son Justin and family to care for your every need. A swim at their local watering hole, hikes, easy access to Tikal and the bus system, and tons of grounds... More
