If you have any inclination to check out the Belize jungle, the caves, or Mayan ruins on your trip, I really don't think you could have a better home base than Lower Dover. This place amazingly sits right on top of a Mayan city (now being excavated), is surrounded by water on three sides (you can swim in the Belize... More

Lower Dover was a wonderful base camp for exploring the Cayo region. About halfway between Belmopan and San Ignacio, it was very easy to get to via public transit, and is set far enough back from the highway/ town that it feels like a real retreat. Madeline made us feel right at home, and was a vast wealth of information... More

We stayed at Lower Dover for 3 nights on our honeymoon in the Rasta suite. The owner Madeleine is very accommodating and booked us on several tours with Pacz (who were also excellent ). Lower Dover is only a short 10 minute walk from the highway in Unitedville which was very convenient as we got the bus in from Belmopan,... More

Lower Dover was recommended by a friend as a great place to stay. For us, it was more than just great. We felt like family from our arrival to our departure. Madeline and Justin are excellent hosts, knowledgable of not only Lower Dover, but the surrounding area also. Our meals were excellent, made from fresh ingredients with a local flavor.... More

What a gem! My family of 6 stayed in the dormitory for two nights after arriving in Belize. What incredible people--Madeline was the most phenomenal hostess...and what incredible property. We were fortunate enough to get an amazing tour from Madeline--what knowledge of the history, medicinal plants, etc... She was helpful before, during and after our arrival with lots of information... My friend and me really enjoyed this spot. Earlier reviews said it best, it really does feel like home, well then agian I am from Madison, WI and they have and they have a badger shrine in the pool table room. The ATM cave was probably one of the coolest things I have ever done. If you stay you really... More

I stayed at Lower Dover with my sister and 2 friends. We were traveling on a budget and got everything we wanted at Lower Dover. "Maddy" one of the owners treats you like family and is readily available if you lack anything. She even let us borrow some of her own things so that we could go down to the... More

My boyfriend and I spent our first week in Belize at this breathtaking place. It should be impossible to experience rustic jungle beauty and still feel pampered at the same time. But at Lower Dover, that's exactly however felt. The red cabana was very comfortable. The stars at night were brighter than anywhere I've ever been. Meals were family style,... More

My partner and I stayed in the bunkhouse which is a bargain. Very comfortable and clean with toilet inside and a hot shower outside. The grounds are beautiful. You can swim in the river and there are lots of nice trails through the rainforest. We saw toucans from our balcony every afternoon! The owners are really nice and helpful. They... More

Camped on site for two nites in the beginning of February. Easily Accessible via bus (costs about 1.50 to 2 usd) then a little hike down a gravel road with signs pointing you in the right direction. Good meals, good hosts, chill guests, low-key. Great first stop in Belize.
