Before you come to Ambergris Caye you have to do some research to make sure the place is what you want. This is a coral island in the Caribbean. The part of the island looking out to the sea is not full of soft, sandy, white beaches. The beaches may be sandy, but the entry into the water is coral. Further, the Caribbean is suffering from an abundance of sea weed and it is smelly and collects on the shore line. There is nothing the hotel can do about the coral. They try very hard to keep the beach sea weed free but the entry into the water is not soft sand and the water does have sea weed. There is a long pier with a ladder at the end of it and a roped off swimming area so as long as you are a good swimmer, getting into and out of the water is a pleasure. If you do some reading, you will read that there are piers like this one all over the island specifically to enable swimmers to get into and out of the water without having to walk on coral or go through seaweed. Use the dock! We did walk on the beach and were sadly eaten alive by sand flies and their bites are vicious and ugly. Again, there is nothing the hotel can do about this. It’s a fact of life at the beach here. Just saying - if you are sensitive to bug bites, use bug spray or avoid the sand. All that being said about things the hotel cannot control, let’s get to the hotel. It is perfectly nice. There are little birds and lizards hopping and running around. There are some fabulous bright green, and grey iguanas roaming around. There are some lovely flowering trees and bushes. The palms are pretty, the beach is pretty, the pool is pretty too. There is a shallow end to the pool and a deep end. It is long enough to do lengths at the times when it’s not busy (fair enough) and it is surrounded by sun loungers and tables/chairs under cover. The staff are attentive and friendly and the food is good. The soft furnishings (cushion covers, for example) are a bit faded and could use an update. Climate is hard on soft furnishings, I agree, but that’s all the reason to update them with cheerful colors (not brown) extremely regularly. They were a bit stained and faded. Our room (a three bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a huge kitchen and a small seating area, was clean and comfortable. There were three outdoor seating areas with chairs and loungers. There are some curious design choices (the main bedroom does not have a cupboard for hanging clothes and to get to the bathroom for the main bedroom you have to go out onto the terrace, that bathroom has no air conditioning and there is no real screening between you and the outside world when you are in the shower. Less a comment about bugs, more a comment about the fact that people could see you if they tried hard enough. Unlikely but it might disturb some people, some windows/doors had screens and others did not so it was impossible to get a through breeze because the screened doors were on one side and the non screened ones - which we did not open - were on the other). The other two bedrooms (one queen bed and one twin room) had ample storeage space and shared a big shower room. Beds all comfy, bedrooms and living room all had independent A/C and ceiling fan controls. Soft furnishings again a bit jaded and in need of a refresh. Net curtains had holes in them and curtains needed a good clean. Again, I get the fact that the strong sun is hard on fabric but that’s life living in the tropics and you have to adapt to it. Our room (Apt 227) faced the street on one side (but it was not noisy) and it faced the restaurant on the other. So, not a great view and the extractor fans from the restaurants were audible, as was the pool pump. Pick a different room. There is no free water int he room The hotel is not close to anything so you will either have to take a very expensive taxi or rent a golf cart (USD 80 for 24 hours) to get anywhere. There are free bikes but the roads do get busy and fumes from all the golf carts are overwhelming and it’s hot and very dusty.

I travelled with a group of old college friends and we had a great time! The resort is beautiful, clean and updated. The pool is fantastic and the beach is nice. There is also a pier where many water excursion companies will do pickups. Overall a great trip!

It is a beautiful location on Ambergris Caye and the staff we interacted with were wonderful. The pool and grounds were relaxing and perfection and the few meals/drinks were delicious. That said, there are lots of opportunities for improvement, especially if going for a higher end resort. The rooms are in need of a refresh from the dated decor, peeling paint, broken bathroom fixtures, broken coffee machine. Never once were our tiny soaps, shampoos, toiletries restocked during our 4-night stay. We took our golf cart out to San Pedro, Secret Beach and beyond and came upon places we would try in the future. I hear there are plans to update it in the the off season and look forward to the next version of this place!

My family and I stayed at Las Terrazas for almost a week. As soon as we checked in we were offered a great drink and it was automatic relaxation time. The staff were courteous and helpful for the entire stayed. Our days were spent alternating between the pool and the beach. If we wanted to go into San Pedro for a bit golf carts are available. The restaurant food is also extremely delicious though a bit pricey when the service charges are added. An amazing place for total relaxation!

Dear North Star, Thank you for choosing Las Terrazas for your family getaway, and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere from the moment you checked in - that Rum Punch is a great way to start a vacation! It's hard to choose between beach days and pool days, but luckily at Las Terrazas Resort, you don't have to! And the golf carts are fun to take into town and all over the island. For guests traveling to the island, we encourage you to stop by the Front Desk so we can share our favorite local eateries and places for souvenir shops. We appreciate your positive feedback on both the quality and price of meals at O Restaurant. Your input is valuable, and we'll certainly take it into consideration for future improvements. Thank you once again for choosing Las Terrazas, and we hope to welcome you and your family back for more total relaxation in the future. Las Terrazas Resort Management

Beautiful property, well maintained and the staff is what you would expect at an iPrefer hotel, friendly and efficient. Without much effort you can walk along the beach all the way to San Pedro. Went out to the flats to chase bonefish a couple of days and consumed a fair amount of gin!

As someone who seldom travels outside the US I appreciated the level of organization provided by the resort. All transportation was handled from leaving Belize International until the return. Transportation on the Island is by golf cart and the resort simplified the acquisition and return. Quality of the facility was excellent and the pool was especially nice. The staff was equal parts friendly, accommodating and professional. Looking forward to a return.

Hi Larry, Thank you for spending your 4 days on Ambergris Caye with us! We believe that Belize is an amazing place to visit - the beautiful turquoise water and 2nd largest barrier reef system in the world is in our front yard, and ancient civilization is in our backyard. For guests such as yourself who don't often travel internationally, you will find Belize easy to navigate: English is the official language, with Spanish spoken widely; the US dollar is accepted most places (although you might receive your change in Belize dollars); the exchange rate is a simple 1:2 with the USD; and outlets are the same as in the US. Ambergris Caye is easy to navigate but golf cart (there are no rental cars on the island). And although downtown San Pedro is only 3 streets wide, there are a plethora of restaurants, beach bars, and shopping opportunities. Las Terrazas Resort's onsite Concierge is available to guests during the planning stages and once you arrive to the island to assist with transfers from BZE international airport and to arrange exciting tours and excursions. Larry, we thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts on your stay and look forward to welcoming you home again to Las Terrazas Resort. Please reach out directly when planning your next trip so that we may offer you our Return Visitor discount. Warm Belizean wishes, Las Terrazas Resort Management

We stopped here for a drink while walking along the beach. What a beautiful resort. This place, like a lot of places will let you use their pool, beach, etc. for a daily rate of $20 (per person I believe) All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. Although we only had drinks, we had intentions of coming back for dinner one night, unfortunately we never made it. I would recommend this place.

Just to add a note about the Resort Passes - the daily fee also includes use of our non-motorized watersports equipment such as the island's only glass bottom kayaks, paddle boards, and Hobie Cat, as well as beach and poolside cabanas and towels. We invite visitors to stop by and spend the day with us. Warmly, AshleyL

The grounds were beautiful! The villa we stayed in was so beautiful and spacious. The room on the top floor has amazing views of the resort. The pool is to die for. It's so relaxing. The drinks were strong just how I like it. The staff were amazing. They were able to recommend many things to do and offered to book excursions for us if needed. This place is a bit far from the central area of San Pedro but that is okay because we were far enough to enjoy peace and quiet. It was however much closer to Secret Beach compared to other hotels so that's a plus. I would definitely recommend this place to others.
