I've lived in Northern California for 6 years -- Finally, I got myself over to the Catalina Islands for a mini-vacation trip and so thrilled I chose Hermosa Hotel! First, with the basics: This hotel has a very down home personality, clean rooms, nice views of the residential neighborhood, close to everything (but still on a quiet block), very safe... more

My 15 year old daughter and I went to Avalon to do the ocean dives needed for scuba certification. The Hermosa is an older hotel with lots of stairs and no elevator. The rooms are very basic. Absolutely no frills. (bring your own hair dryer!) Some have bathrooms and showers, some don't. But if you are a diver, it's the... more

This hotel ROCKS! Definitely the BEST place to stay in Avalon if you are looking for the best deal in town and want the friendliest service in the world. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is looking for an upscale environment though, but if you do, you could easily pay 300 a night. If you are a simple kind... more

The room is tiny looks a hundred years old ,the matrass has the springs comming thru, dirty carpet, mirrors are so old that the silver reflecting background is... more

I liked this hotel. I knew about inexpensive hotels in Catalina and was ready for a small room. The rooms are small not very small, but comfortable. The staff was great. Only a ten minute walk to harbor. This is a no frills hotel, but it supplies everything needed for a short stay. more

If you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Avalon, this is it! The rooms are comfortable. The staff is so friendly and helpful. it is an easy walk to downtown and the beach. We had planned to stay three nights, but were enjoying ourselves we added another night. As nature would have it, we had to... more

The Hermosa has character. You love it or you don't. Me, I love it. I've been going there for 13 years. I went almost every month for a couple of years while writing a story for a screenplay that takes place in Avalon and at the Hermosa. The Hermosa was the hang-out of my main character. If the movie is... more

I brought my Swiss-Miss-Heidi to re-live my childhood memories and have a romantic get-away. Oddly enough, 'romantic' for us means punishing kayaking and grueling hikes punctuated by good cheese and wine... and a lot of sleep. We are both avid travelers, and have been, indeed lived, all over the world, from Europe to Central America to SE Asia. A friend... more

I have read some of the bad reviews and was disgusted. I feel that I need to defend what we have come to love. The hotel gives more than a great value for the dollar. There are some wonderful, more expensive hotels in Catalina for those who need more than a basic clean, charming, nostalgic stay. My money is on... more
