I am in the travel industry and very picky about where I stay..and I was looking for that "perfect" spot in Avalon Catalina Island and WOW did I find it!! The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff made me feel right at home, the rooftop terrace was almost to good to be true with the peacefulness and the... more

I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews about this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find very different conditions. While there are no frills, it was quaint, quiet and very clean. It is an older hotel and decorated as such but not to a fault. The patio truly is lovely. It overlooks the water and the... more

Perfect rooms if dont mind sore necks and backs. The linens were very weathered and old. The bath towels were unabsorbant and rough. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was average, but we have never slept on such uncomfortable beds in our lives. i would not recommend staying here because of the price. The walls are paper thin and you... more

To reiterate a previous reviewer - the cancellation policy for this hotel is ridiculous. You lose 100% of your money if you cancel closer than 30 days to your stay. I booked my reservation through Expedia, and the hotel tried to redirect me to Expedia to try to get a refund. Expedia told me I had to call the hotel.... more

Web site says its a block away from the main drag so its quiet. Ha! This was bar none the loudest hotel room I have ever stayed in. You can hear the people upstairs walking around because of the age/type of structure. That isn't uncommon in hotels, but this was unusually loud. On the main drag of Avalon no vehicles... more

Be careful before making a reservation, their cancelation policy is extremely unreasonable. We had to cancel due to a serious medical emergency and they really make no exceptions -- this included even our boat tickets. We would have gladly rescheduled and even added an extra day mid-week or off-peak, but they really just want your money, not you. We travel... more

I picked this hotel because of its Victorian ambiance and we (my 91 year old mother, myself, and my 9 year old son) were not disapointed. It was charming, and the view from the 6th floor, roof-top patio was incredible! The view from pricier hotels along the esplanade could not compare, I'm sure. Our room with a king-sized bed and... more

The Hotel is rundown, towels threadbare, location was great! The night manager Tim was wonderful.Friendly outgoing and accomdating! The daytime manager a man needs some people skills. The people in the next room were loud and TV on all night. We were promised coffee and rolls in the lobby in the mornings, no rolls when asked about it, said we don"t do... more

We(my fiance and I...I proposed on the island) were very pleased with our stay at the Hotel St. Lauren. It enhanced our already euphoric stay on the island. The staff was welcoming from the moment we walked in, a friendly attitude that said I am here to make your stay stress free. And that, they did. We went on a... more

The St. Lauren is a great value, and Avalon in November is a great destination. Our king-bed room on the 5th floor had a balcony overlooking the harbor ($108.) Our stay had none of the negatives mentioned in earlier reviews: the staff was friendly and helpful, checked us in an hour early and even stored our laptop computer in the... more
