If it hasn't happened already, someone needs to buy this place and spruce it up. The location is amazing. The beds will kill you unless you are used to horrible beds. The rooms are dark and musty. But the view... WOW. Location is also fabulous. Although a hike from town.

We enjoyed everything about our stay, the rooms were tidy and comfortable. The cats roaming the grounds were great company while we played cards on the patio over looking the breath taking view and enjoying the deer that came to visit. Keep in mind this is an older hotel however the price was right and the staff are kind.

We left after one night and no hot water, dirty walls and furniture, small beds, etc. Just a bad overall deal. We had been warned and should have heeded the advice. Fortunately, the place is now closed. In the meantime, there are numerous places in Catalina where the experience is superior. Check out the Hotel Metropole - terrific.

Until recently, I stayed at the Zane Grey Hotel for many years. Lots of wonderful memories and spectacular views worth the climb from main street Avalon. Unfortunately, the pueblo went from aging gracefully to just worn out. The old place has been for sale for years now and I can only assume the current owners don't want to invest any... More

My husband and I were married on their patio, June 12, 2008. My mother stayed at the hotel so they let us rent the patio for free. It was perfect! Beautiful view! Wonderful place to stay when visiting Catalina. Nice to know history of Zane Grey as well!

We spent our first wedding anniversary at the end of October at Zane Grey, which is a lovely bed and breakfast in a "historic" property high atop Avalon. Although the rooms are old and the breakfast is not special, the view is the best possible. It is worth every penny to see all of Avalon from your room and the... More

Despite mixed reviews from folks wanting more activity during their stay, we found the Zane Grey Pueblo to be delightfully serene midst the popular Jazz Festival going on. If you are looking for a hotel with satellite TV where you can keep in touch with the world off this island getaway, then the hotel is not for you. Moreover, if... More

Booking the Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel I was somewhat taken aback from an odd posting about unhappiness with the amenities, after our arrival I can honestly eay put that to rest. THE Zane Grey Pueblo is a true lovers getaway, but if your looking to be entertained then stay down the hill....this place is for those who are looking to... More

Well, I don't know where to start. We stayed there for one night and when we left there was a 1hour 20 minute boat ride back to Dana Point and a 8 hour drive home and during that time I was looking for a work that would describe Zane Gray and the only thing I could come up with is... More

I was excited to come to the Zane Grey. I have wanted to come but always had my children. I knew this was a quiet hotel. So I decided to go on my birthday and get all the free things on the island for my birthday. The taxi drove me to the hotel. The room was ready early and the... More
