I stayed their for the weekend with my boyfriend and we enjoyed our stay. Our room was pretty clean, but the bathroom needs a little work. The wallpaper was all cracked near the shower. Overall, the hotel was decent. The view was spectacular!!!!!!!! Also, do NOT leave your window open! (the windows have no screens) We accidently left our window... more

My boyfriend and I just returned from a week-long trip to the Los Angeles area and while there, spent three days and two nights in Avalon at Catalina Island. We had read reviews about the Zane Grey hotel and thought it would be very interesting to stay there....we were also excited about the gorgeous views we saw in pictures of... more

Second Timer at the ZGP. First time stayed at "Call of the Canyon" room, one of 4 Ocean Front Units on the Main Building, which I would recommend. Small rooms but with character and amazing ocean views! This time all of those were booked, so we ended up in the "Western Stars," the middle of 3 ocean view units on... more

We stayed two nights while traveling with another couple. We're all in our 60's and 70's. We had no problems with taxi from boat landing to hotel. The place is old and rustic, but guests and staff were very friendly. Rooms are spartan, but in cool weather, it didn't matter. Both couples had ocean-front rooms and the view was breathtaking.... more

Some of the reviews of the Zane Grey are so lame! Ask for a view room in the old part of the hotel if you want to enjoy it the most. Yes, it is up the hill, but they do provide free taxi service. Part of the fun staying at the Zane Grey is that it is a little bit... more

I've stayed at the Zane Grey many times over the past 5 years. You can't beat the view or the price. The Zane is up for sale, so if you want to enjoy a piece of history, you better make plans before it changes hands. I go to the island for peace and quiet. This hotel doesn't have TV's in... more

Five of us went there for the fourth of July and had a great experience. The hotel was completely booked, but you would had never known. The pool was really nice and we spent alot of time lounging around in it. It has to have the best views of any hotel on the island. It is located on a fairly... more

The hotel is located on a steep hill where the road winds round and round high up like a roller coaster. It is not super close to the beach where most of the hotels are located. It takes 15 min. downhill and isn't bad at all; you get to enjoy the nature part of it. At this time the weather... more

Zane Grey balconies peer down a winding road, over the village of Avalon, below to the harbor dotted with sails and yachts. The small deck off our room looked down a canyon and houses nestled against the cliff walls. It was as if were were in Europe. We sunned, smiled, and felt pampered. Yes, to experience a view like this,... more

My wife and I stayed in the Desert Wheat room. This oceanview room was reasonably priced at $65 per night, mid-week winter rate. The view from the room was amazing and satisfying. The room itself was clean, neat, efficient: No closet; small chest of drawers; comfortable bed; simple and pleasing decor. The small bath and toilet were no bother at... more
