ok, we try to stay in places that are historic and have killer rooms. because of weather up on I 5, we elected to go up the coast and decided to book into the Arcata because it was on the plaza, had a great restaurant nearby (the plaza grill), and had a suite (we always go for good rooms mostly... Tiny bathroom with no sink. tiny sink was in the bedroom with no counter. Shower water was either hot or cold. Mattress hard as a rock, the springs dug into my body all night. Was woke several times during the night by loud drunks and/or homeless people fighting and/or singing at the top of their lungs. Every time a neighboring... More

If this were an ordinary hotel I would have rated it Average, however the Hotel Arcata is a historic hotel which has a lot of charm. Others have commented that it's in need of a lot of renovation and that's true but I find that the original fixtures such as the claw-foot tubs and vintage bathroom and room appliances add... More

First of all, let me be clear about picking the Hotel Arcata. I knew going in, especially based on a lot of reviews here that we weren't going to a four star hotel. We love staying in historic hotels, at least giving them a chance. This was a vacation where a big part of our focus was getting up to... More

Stayed here in the first couple of days of Sacred Rides' tour of the Californian Lost Coast. The property is a historical building in the middle of the Arcata square, one of the oldest buildings in this town I assume. The room and bathroom were in line with the historic theme, and was different to most other hotels I've been... More

The Arcata Hotel is celebrating its 100 year anniversary. A fun little place filled with lots of history and stories. Because its on the plaza, expect the evenings/nights to be loud if you have a window open. Room amenities are tired and they could really use updating.

Charming hotel! Yes, it is old and a little noisy, but very comfortable. Bring a hair dryer. Our room didn't have one. If you enjoy historic hotels and the feeling of nostalgia, this hotel is a wonderful place to stay.

I can't imagine that they are renting rooms out here to tourists, but then I have not really been around Arcata since the 70s and early 80s. But at that time the locals jokingly referred to this place as the 'Hotel California'; it was full of transients and hippies, sex, drugs rock and roll. I was a bartender at one... More

This is a cool historic hotel right on the plaza in Arcata. If you want to walk to restaurants, shops, and just hang out in this part of town, it's a great location. There is a lot of activity around, though, so if you don't like regular types of "city" noises, you might not like it. There are people down... More

Older hotel but nice if you like that sort of thing. Friendly, helpful staff. Wi-fi problems but staff was attentive to them. Control of the heat leaves a little to be desired. Get a room on the back as the plaza can be very noisy at night.
