First of all this attraction/museum is comes up on Tripadvisor under hotels and it obviously is NOT a hotel, but a museum of a restored aircraft carrier. It is a work in progress and it is being lovingly restored through the efforts of a non-profit foundation. So it is not in perfect condition, but is well worth a visit, particularly... More

One of the most interesting museums on the west coast. Giving the fullest experience of how our men live out on their tours on a carrier. I was very impressed. An additional point goes to the fact that this place caters to the entire family, boys and girls of all ages. There are activities for all. Only thing missing was... More

We went to tour the USS Hornet with my little niece and father. Their ages ranged from 7 to 80. It was a great experience for everyone. There is so much to see, it can not be seen in one trip. It can be a little hard for individuals who have to climb stairs. The stairs are very steep and... More

The docent-led tour of the bridge was outstanding. The docent was clear, patient, extremely well-informed, and responsive to questions. Among many other things, I learned how the Navy and and Army use the job title "quartermaster" for two entirely different occupations. As a former Coast Guard member, this tour was of special interest. And, my father served on a carrier... More

My son and I were recently privileged to stay over night on this wonderful history rich ship. We spent the night with a whole bunch of Boy Scouts, my son's pack and several others. We enjoyed tours, chow where other sailors had eaten, ghost stories, sleeping in the 3 layer bunks just like sailors in the past who served aboard... More

On a recent trip to San Francisco we toured the USS Hornet. Once we got to Alameda it was very difficult to locate and we had to stop and ask directions. Even the locals were unsure a to its location. We found the carrier to be in need of a lot of maintenance. It was rather neglected. The flight deck... More

We very much enjoyed our visit to the Hornet. However the ship needs a lot of work to get up to speed as a tourist attraction. First it is difficult to find unless you know where it is. Second the flight deck and hangar have very few aircraft exhibits. The flight deck has just four, including an F-14 Tomcat, an... More

very much fun place to visit. lots of history and cool tours inside the ship. On the ships website theres good directions on how to get there without a car. Last bus stop is about 20min walk from the museum ship so be prepared for this last detail. Cool sights of the bay from the ship. Museum need a bit... More

This was a highlight of our visit to the USA on a road trip that covered over 2,300 miles. I had been waiting a long time to see this vessel as she represents a lot of history and not just naval history, also some aviation history and space history too, as this warship not only served in WW2, but also... This ship is a big piece of history. Be sure to come early enough to get a tour to captain's deck which I have missed. This is definitely something you want to see if you're in the Bay area. Ship is big but you can get around quite well since there are maps available. We did just walk around by... More
