We just got back from an overnight stay in the USS Hornet. It was definitely a unique experience, but if we were doing it over again we would go just for the day.
The arrival day was pretty much all spent with waiting on the doch, checking in, hearing about the rules, firedrill and a pretty bland dinner (is that what soldiers are eating?). Since we had small kids who fell asleep pretty much right after that, we were not able to do any of the night tours, because we could not leave them alone.
The sleeping areas are as modest as expected, but fairly clean. The bunk beds are three levels high and have not guard rails. Kids who are in danger of rolling out should sleep on the lower level.The ship is anchored at the harbor and practically no motion could be felt, so no risk at all of getting sea-sick. This is good, because the breakfirst was again "interesting", however good enough to get the day started.
