The stay was fantastic. I cannot say enough about the warm reception & helpful interactions that we had with the Innkeeper, Joanna. She is wonderful & extremely helpful. Although we didn't see housekeeping every day, when we did encounter them, they were also very pleasant. The entire house, including our room, was well appointed, clean & inviting. The breakfasts &... More

We were attending a meeting in Washington DC and actually stumbled upon Akwaaba through trip advisor. What a terrific find! Parking was a snap right behind the building. The area was safe and bustling with nearby restaurants and shops. Our room was large and comfortable. Joanna was perhaps the best part of the experience. As has been mentioned in other... More

Joanne was our host and from the first meeting to the last goodbye she was amazing. She was more like a best friend ... ready and willing to help with anything. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are large and well appointed. The theme of the B & B is a plus... we read stories from the featured author... More

My husband and I, along with our 3 college age kids, spent 3 days in DC and our home base was the Writer's Apartment in the basement of Akwaaba. It is in a set of row houses in the DuPont Circle neighborhood where you are surrounded by beautiful homes and embassies. When we first arrived to check in we felt... More

I absolutely love Akwaaba DC!! I'm a poet, producer and performance artist and there is nothing more inspiring than to be in the comfort of a beautiful space that celebrates some of the greatest American writers of our time! The Zora Neale Hurston Suite is my favorite room! The Inspiration Suite has a great soaking tub and fantastic natural light.... More

Our short stay in Dc was enhanced by our time at Akwaaba. Is a lovely place, with great location and easy access both by metro and the buses. The place decoration and common spaces are wonderful to stay, wish we had more time to spend evenings to relax and enjoy Joanna little treats. We will definitively return if we have... More

We had a fantastic stay at Akwaaba in DC. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the inn keeper, Joanna, who prepared the most delightful breakfast and afternoon refreshments. She was always available to assist us on places of interest and transportation. Our room was tastefully decorated and very clean. We enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend this inn.

Excellent stay, Joanna the inn keeper made the stay, breakfasts were great as were the afternoon wine and freshly made nibbles. Felt like a home from home. Fantastic location, 20 minute walk to White House and 10 minutes to metro. Great bars in the local area. Would definitely recommend to others and hope to visit again.

I had a wonderful time at Akwaaba DC. It is in a great location with easy walking access to many memorials, dupont circle and many different restaurants. It is also located close to the metro station. We greatly enjoyed the homemade breakfast daily and also the daily refreshments and snacks (wine, lemonade, homemade hummus, meatballs, cookies or brownies). Joanna was... More

The Akwaaba was an absolutely amazing experience. It is very clean! The innkeeper was extremely attentive and the fresh breakfast was awesome. The surrounding area and restaurants were great and in walking distance. It was truly a relaxing getaway and made for a great anniversary trip. We highly recommend this inn and look forward to booking another trip to this... More
