Beautiful rooms with a Harlem Renaissance nostalgia makes you feel present in a time when living wasn't easy, but loving was. No boring continental breakfast! Breakfast like Grandma makes, appetizers with wine and cheese to hold you over until you reach one of the lovely dinner spots a short walk away are all included. Akwaaba is my New "go to"... More

My husband and I wanted to spend a weekend away in DC before our first baby comes in July and we absolutely loved our stay at Akwaaba B&B. The entire house was decorated beautifully and breakfast each morning was delicious. The king size bed in our room was very comfortable! The owner, Monique, was a wonderful hostess and very helpful... More

This is my second time staying at the Akwaaba; the first being back in 2006. I reserved the same room and loved the Zora Neal space. Large king sized bed, deep romantic red walls, an occasional space to sit by the window overlooking historic landmarks and close walking distance to my favorite neighborhood in DC. The room itself is suffering... More

Charming understates this warm, extraordinary B&B. Great breakfast, lovely people, charming room. The building reminded us of an early 20th century brownstone, great woodwork and fireplaces included. The decor is a fascinating blend, with an emphasis on African-American and African and with some art deco touches in our room. Our room (Langston Hughes) was spacious with charming period furniture but... More

We spent 3 days in Washington, and found Akwaaba and our host Joanna to be the ideal 'home' to come back to. Beautifully presented with character rooms, en-suite bathrooms were very clean, well appointed and characterful. The breakfasts have been mentioned in other reviews - an absolute gourmet standout experience, and the afternoon 'happy hour' not far behind. Joanna couldn't... More

This was our first trip to DC. We had an amazing time. Joanna the innkeeper really made our stay perfect. She is awesome. The rooms were very comfortable. The meals were out of this world. We will stay here on our next visit to DC.

Stayed at the Akwaaba in Washington DC on 16th Street in January just prior to winter storm Juno. I hesitated making a report as many others will come here and find it to be excellent Hotel and then they will become fully booked. Very pleasant and warm accommodation. Warm in the sense that we made Friends with Glen Pouge, an... More

My daughter and I just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip to DC. Having frequented bed and breakfast places all over our great State of Texas I reserved our stay at Akwaaba strictly based on location, pictures on the internet and past reviews. We were not disappointed and highly recommend it for other visitors to DC. The accommodations were... More

My stay at Akwaaba DC was not just an ordinary escape...it was an experience! From the location to the hospitality, the rooms (I booked the Langston Suite) and the breakfast...Akwaaba certainly makes a statement. Did I mention the breakfast? As good as it was, it is deserving of a double mention! For a first-time B&Ber I'll have to say that... More

Our stay at this delightful B and B was one of the highlights of our visit to the USA and we cannot fault it in any way. Joanna was the perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble for her. She assisted us in organizing taxis etc. The breakfasts (and the snacks in the late afternoon) were simply delicious. The... More
