We stayed at Akwaab for 4 nights. Loved every minute of it. Kristen is a great innkeeper - and makes a lovely breakfast - challah french toast with fresh poached pears, veggie frittatas, etc. On most nights we skipped dinner and enjoyed the happy hour hors d'oeuvres and wine. Comfortable bed, quality linens and a quiet room. The literary theme... more

The big plus at Akwaaba was the terrific skill and warmth of hostess/ manager Kristin: her delightful breakfasts, attentiveness to guests, gracious manner, and most of all sense of fun and humor added up to a positive comfortable easy stay. more

Each room is different, honoring different literary figures and having some of their works. The full breakfast is wonderful! The property manager/chef/raconteur is enchanting, resourceful, and makes it easy for me to re-book Akwaaba when I return to DC. It's located in a residential area, yet has great restaurant choices within two blocks. Should you need something, there's a big supermarket... more

Does that not say it all? Akwaaba was a wonderful find for my friend (colleague) and myself that afforded a great location, wonderful accomodations and a friendly and caring staff. The breakfast was great, but the coffee could be a bit stronger for our taste. I would try and book a room for any visit where an Akwaaba B&B is... more

I've lived in DC for most of my life but stayed at Akwaaba on 16th St. in NW, DC recently and felt like I was in another time and place. I was truly on vacation the two nights I spent there, SIMPLY AMAZING!! It took me a while to really get comfortable because it felt like I was sitting in... more

I found Akwaaba on line maybe 5 or 6 years ago & have been trying to get to one of them since then I first became obsessed with the Brooklyn Mansion but never got there. I went on line searching for black own business & found Akwaaba. I took my boyfriend here for a birthday celebration & we both loved... more

I would like to say that this was the first time I ever stayed in a B&B. My stay was for 15 days. I must say that the innkeeper Kristin Singleton was great. She ensured that my stay was an enjoyable one. She explained to me that they were a Geen establishment and the meaning of being green. To ensure... more

We stayed in the Zora Neale Hurston room. The bed slept extremely comfortable. The jucuzzi was the bomb! The breakfasts were extremely tasty and very filling. They were well presented. The location was great. Kristin Singleton was an outstanding hostess and quite informative! She created a comfortable atmosphere. She made our stay in D.C. very memorable. more

I arrived after twelve hours drive. I was cheerfully and warmly welcomed and given a tour of the house. The happy hour snacks that would ordinarily have been put away were kept available for my arrival. I was helped with printing out something from the internet, and all the questions I had were answered. The breakfast was delicious. more

We stayed four days at at Akwaaba, we loved it. this was our second trip to DC. we stayed at another B&B last time. it was OK, at Akwaaba we felt welcome from the start. Kristen did everything possible to make our experience a positive one. In addition to the little extras, we witnessed the special things staff did for... more
