My daughter and I just returned from a 4 day/3 night trip to DC. Having frequented bed and breakfast places all over our great State of Texas I reserved our stay at Akwaaba strictly based on location, pictures on the internet and past reviews. We were not disappointed and highly recommend it for other visitors to DC. The accommodations were... More

My stay at Akwaaba DC was not just an ordinary escape...it was an experience! From the location to the hospitality, the rooms (I booked the Langston Suite) and the breakfast...Akwaaba certainly makes a statement. Did I mention the breakfast? As good as it was, it is deserving of a double mention! For a first-time B&Ber I'll have to say that... More

Our stay at this delightful B and B was one of the highlights of our visit to the USA and we cannot fault it in any way. Joanna was the perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble for her. She assisted us in organizing taxis etc. The breakfasts (and the snacks in the late afternoon) were simply delicious. The... More

This was the perfect gift for my mother. She works hard and she needed a 'staycation' in DC, so I gifted her a night here for her Christmas present...she loved it! She said that the room was gorgeous, Joanna was so friendly, the food was delicious and generous, and of course she loved the Zora Neale Hurston name to the... More

I stayed here after a friend recommended it and I have now recommended it to friends who will stay here next year. It truly was a home away from home. Joanna was so welcoming and warm. My room was great - clean, plenty of space, excellent wifi (a phone would have been good, but the wifi was so good I... More

For us this place helped make our stay in Washington. It is a lovely property and is furnished sympathetically to the style of the the building. The entrance, dining room and our bedroom were all furnished with high quality furniture. Our hostess, Joanna, was welcoming and knew a lot of details about Washington. she produced a hot home style American... More

The house was just gorgeous and exuded a beautiful ambience. Our host made us feel so welcome. The breakfasts were fabulous, as were the drinks and nibbles that awaited us after a day of sightseeing. Definitely recommend Akwaaba.

My husband and I stayed at Akwaaba DC for the first two nights of our honeymoon in March and we loved it! We are from Washington, DC and wanted two relax the first day or two before traveling. We loved every moment of the classic Inspiration Suite, especially the plush robes and the beautiful new claw foot tub. Joanna, the... More

The Dupont Circle location, fine food and a beautiful old home combine to make Akwaaba D.C. an extremely pleasant place to stay in Washington. It's reasonably close to a subway stop, and a roughly 20 minute walk to the White House. Joanna, the housekeeper, was helped us figure out which of the many nearby restaurants to go to, as well.... What a wonderful way to spend a stay in Washington DC! The innkeeper Joanna, was a delight and very accommodating. Breakfasts were great and every evening we looked forward to wine and cheese along with home-made cookies. We stayed in two different rooms and we loved both. The only downside was that since the B&B is on a fairly busy... More
