We had a wonderful stay for three nights at Akwaaba. Quiet, nice and cool (when we were there the heat was stifling outside!) and the most wonderful Monique to welcome us! Great place if you are doing college tours. Make sure to come hungry to do Monique's fantastic home-cooked breakfasts justice. Can't recommend enough. :)

There's no place better to stay than this in Washington. Nani welcomed us and we loved her all though the 4 day visit. She was so helpful and knowledgeable on all walks of life. Room was adequate. Great breakfast. Happy hour was great fun. Good location. Very safe neighbourhood.

I don't typically write reviews, and in fact, this is my first. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2-day stay at Akwaaba, DC. Stayed in the Toni Morrison Room, which met my needs for a quiet place for reflection. Most importantly, kudos to the Innkeeper, Nani Tripp. She was more than the 'keeper' ---she was also quite the host and chef.. Met... More

We spent a lovely time in Akwaaba B&B not only because of the very appealing and spacious room we stayed in (Nora Zeale Hurston) and not only due to the great location around trendy Dupont Circle. It was particularly thanks to Nani, the innkeeper, who made the stay unique with the very tasty breakfasts she created. She also had good... More

To anyone wondering what Awkwaaba is, it means Welcome. This place is the coziest, most welcoming place we've ever stayed in. It's in a historic building that's located conveniently near everything, and every room is designed differently to fit everyone's comfort. I took my mother here for her birthday to visit DC, and we stayed in the Walter Mosley room... More

The room was very nice, clean and modern. The host Nani could not have been more pleasant and helpful. It is in a nice neighbourhood, and close to restaurants and some shops. Washington is a very nice city to visit, with plenty to do!

Akwaaba has been our lodging of choice in DC for years. Not only is it a gorgeous space with interesting rooms, each honoring the spirit of African American notables, but they are committed to service. The location could not be more excellent. Walking distance from Dupont Circle, the Logan Circle area and the U corridor. Its 3 minute cab ride... More

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay over the 4th of July weekend. Innkeeper Nani is a great host and cook, and is a lot of fun to talk with. The building itself is a wonderful space with "great bones" and an eclectic assortment of furniture. The location is excellent, especially if you want to access Dupont Circle... More

Akwaaba DC is a charming four-story house right in the center of DC (I could see the Washington Monument clearly from our window). We stayed in the Langston Hughes suite, which was spacious and light and has a balcony; we also had a peek at the Inspirations room on the top floor, which I will definitely book the next time...
