We stayed in two rooms at the American Guest House in Washington, D.C. over the recent Thanksgiving holiday. From the moment of our arrival we were made to feel weclome. Jonathan, Ping and Sterling all were gracioius and efficient. A delicious breakfast downstairs certainly beat trecking down the street to grab coffee and a roll. Our rooms were spotlessly clean.... more

Nestled on a quiet street in Washington, DC's Embassy Row, this bed & breakfast is a gem. Built in 1880 and recently refurbrished, it is scrupulously clean, and historic structures and decor are preserved. Breakfast is prepared each morning and is served in a lovely dining room. Walkable to Dupont Circle and the Wardman metro station, with a bus stop... more

Why spend big bucks on a 5 star hotel when you can stay at the American Guest House .Our room #202 was very clean and cozy and even though it was facing the street we weren't bothered by the street noise. It was a close walk to the metro station and there was a bus on the corner. Jonathan made... more

I found the American Guest House online when I was looking for a place to stay in DC for under $200 per night. It was conveniently situated halfway between Dupont Circle and the convention hotel. Traveling alone, I reserved the smallest room in the place. And it was small--it didn't even have a closet--but it worked for me. It was... more

When you arrive at American Guest House, you enter by typing a code sent to you beforehand by e-mail and go to your room, which is open with the key inside. This sounds reasonable and in fact worked efficiently, but coupled with the notes taped everywhere, it contributed to a very strange atmosphere. Jonathan is the person in charge and... more

Management response from

We trust our guests to stop by the front desk (especially when they arrive before 3pm, our check-in time) and get checked in prior to going into their rooms. It is quite uncommon for a guest to come in before check in time and to go straight into their bedroom, specially because they know beforehand that payment is due in...

My daughter and I stayed at the American Guest House for our first trip to DC. It was a wonderful place to stay, full of unique charm and a very friendly and helpful staff. We walked about 10 minutes each way to the Dupont Circle metro station and traveled all over the city that way. This is not an easy... more

Clean, comfortable room with style and character. Everything we needed and more. When my husband remarked that we needed to refrigerate insulin a fridge appeared in our room despite the fact that there was one in the dining room which we could have used. Free cookies, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and other beverages accessible at all times as well as... more

Very attentive considering the limited number of staff; services above par; thoughtful layout for somewhat small rooms. Reasonable cost for a very expensive town to stay in. Well prepared for visitors arriving at different times; good breakfast choices. Walk to the METRO at DuPont Circle quite easy; advance information could have included using the Woodley Park METRO stop if climbing... more

American guest House was a great and cozy place to stay right in the middle of it all. It's very close to Dupont Circle and the Dupont Circle metro, which makes it very convenient. There's also lots of restaurants around that offer a variety of foods from all over and at various prices. Buses and taxis are easy to come... more
