We made a last minute decision to take an overnight trip to DC for our kids' first stay in a hotel and to visit the Smithsonian. I attended a conference at the Conference Centre. The hotel is only 8 minutes easy walk from the Centre. 5 minutes' walk to Safeway for buying whatever I needed. 10 minutes walk to the China Town for good food. 25 minutes walk to the National Mall. Even this hotel is off the beaten path, it is only 2 blocks south of a Metro station and better yetr, only 1 block East of a Circulator bus which can take you to Georgetown for dinner or to the Mall to do the museums, etc. Cost is only $1.00 or 50 cents for seniors. I stayed here for four nights in April 2009, and found the location great. We were able to walk to most places, and it's also very convenient for the Subway too.
